Lacey Thibodeaux Dr. Hebert EDTC 100 M 8: I believe life-long learning is that it is never too late to learn or too early to begin. As the world’s knowledge enhances in technology and science, so should learning. Teachers make our future. They are so important to our society and have helped produce great minds like Albert Einstein. Without teachers being committed to life-long learning, the students would not learn. It is relevant for the teacher to influence life-long learning to his or her students because a secondary education is not enough for someone to have the skill and knowledge for a job the rest of their lives. The commitment of a teacher to his or her students makes the world of difference. If a teacher does not care about teaching, the students will not care about learning. On the other hand, if a teacher strives his or her hardest to teach and promote learning, it will make a huge difference in a student’s life. It is extremely important to have a positive teacher-student relationship. In some cases, a teacher could be the only decent role model in a student’s life because many children come from broken homes. A reflective practitioner is when a teacher reviews a student’s learning disabilities from the past and tries to use the best method of teaching to help fix the student’s weaknesses, while trying to make further learning advancements. For instance, if a student cannot do basic addition, he or she will not be able to do algebra. Personally, I believe a teacher should reflect on a student’s past. It is significant because if the teacher does not help the student catch up, the student will always be behind in learning and may even quit school.
Technology is a gift of man-kind and should be used with caution. It should be used in a classroom but only to some extent. For example, if you give a child a calculator in third grade, he or she will never learn how to add or subtract and, most likely, will struggle in secondary school because of the reliability on a calculator at an early age. Technology can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how a teacher lets his or her students use it.
