Samantha Belk EDTC 100 sec.E September 22, 2008 Autobiography My full name is Samantha Jo Belk. My birth name is Samantha Jo Carr. I recently wed in February, to Justin Thomas Belk. My friends and family call me Sammy Jo. I was born in Houston, TX to Devenia Flores and Franklin Carr. I have two brothers Franklin Carr and Michael Thaman. I also have one sister Catina Meaux. Between my brothers and sister they have blessed me with five nieces and three nephews allowing me to surround my life with children. I was first chair clarinet in band. I won three first place medals. I will be traveling to New Orleans in the fall, and I will also visit Jamaica and Cancun in the spring on a five-day cruise. I will be getting my first chance to see other parts of the world and observe different cultures. As a teacher, I am making a commitment to be a life long learner. Being a life long learner means always learning something new everyday. As a teacher, I have to be current and aware of all things that occur around me. If there is something that I am unsure about, my responsibility as a teacher is to research that subject to further my student’s education. My goal as a life long learner advocate is to educate my students to the best of my knowledge, so that children can become life long learners for themselves. I currently am employed at L’auberge Du Lac. I am a waitress at Jack Daniels Bar and Grill and have been employed there since April. My previous employment was at Bay Area Exotic Pets where I was manager for a year. In high school I was a teacher aid
in biology. I got to work alongside the teacher and help the students when needed. I also was a teacher aid in the library and got the chance to read to the elementary students. Also, I participated in an after-school program where I monitored elementary students for a week. I also was employed at Toys r’ us for six months where I was the party associate. I had the opportunity to be around several children in a hectic environment. I won science student of the year. I was in the National Honor Society. I was Student council class favorite my junior and senior year. I participated in softball my junior year and also lettered. I was on prom and yearbook committee. I won prom queen and was on the homecoming court. I graduated sixth in my class with a 3.0 GPA. I participated in UIL science. Upon my first year in college I made dean’s list. I am of Hispanic descent. My mother is Hispanic and my father is Caucasian, so I have experienced two different cultures my whole life. I took three years of Spanish in high school and can understand the language. My long-term goal is to acquire a master’s degree in elementary education. I hope to acquire my bachelor’s degree in elementary education in four years and add on the required courses for me to teach pre-k through fifth grade. I hope to graduate with a major in elementary education and a minor in special education. My short-term goal is to do well on the ACT so I will not have to take the Praxis. I have been surrounded by children my whole life. I have experienced children in many different atmospheres and none intrigue me more than when in the learning environment. In high school, I tutored children of different ages and discovered that I enjoy the expressions children get when they understand a subject for the first time. My
