What is an Aerobics Exercise?
Aerobics is described as a vigorous activity designed to strengthen the lungs and the heart.
The word aerobics came from the Greek word "aero" which means air, and "bios" which
refers to life. Aerobics aims to improve the elements of fitness such as flexibility, muscular
strength, and cardiovascular fitness. It consists of a mixture of fundamental movements
dance steps, swinging movements, and stretching exercises. Routines are developed and
synchronized to a music that has a definite and rhythmic beat. Step aerobics incorporates
benches ranging in height from four to ten inches. The step evolved from the need to
provide exercises with another type of low impact activity that is both interesting and
challenging.
Advantages derived from participating in step training:
• The intensity is low to moderate, without putting too much pressure on the joints since
most step workouts are of low impact.
• The workouts strengthen and tone the lower body.

lungs, and blood vessels to supply oxygen to your muscles during physical activity.

Aerobics aims to improve the elements of fitness such as flexibility, muscular strength, and cardiovascular fitness. Why do we call it Step aerobics?  It's called Step Aerobics because the main component of the exercise involves stepping up and down on a platform, or "step," to the rhythm of music. The repetitive stepping motion combined with aerobic movements helps increase heart rate and improve cardiovascular endurance. Choosing the Right Height for the Step The height of the step depends on the experience, skill, and fitness level of the person. People with healthy knees should never allow the knee joints to exceed 90 degrees when they are executing the different basic moves of the step aerobics. They should avoid knee movements exceeding 60 degrees when they are flexing or bending to avoid knee problems.
