Karthik calling Karthik

Introduction: Psychopathology in movies

Portrayals of mental illnesses and psychiatric therapies in the media, and especially in films, generate a lot of curiosity in the general public, and for medical practitioners it can be useful, and sometimes even necessary, to keep track of these works in order to understand the at times irrational fears or expectations of patients and their relatives. Popular films may present stereotypes or misinformation and generate false impressions. At the same time, they can inspire hope and motivation for change and provide contexts for therapeutic communication and encounters. applying movies as teaching aids for medical students, psychiatric residents, and others students—a new aspect in the complex relationship between psychiatry and movies. It is said that there are more negative responses when It comes to the portrayal of mental health in the film platform. They show people with mental health problems under a bad light making people believe the these are original actions of how people with mental health problems behave whereas the portrayal of these characters under this light is done for the mere entertainment purposes and to make the story more interesting for the audience to watch. About the movie and relevance of choosing the movie

Out of the few examples o the movies I have given above for depicting mental health illness in the right manner or almost the right manner, I personally feel the movie “Karthik calling Karthik” comes under the category of showing mental health problems in almost the right manner. They also show the character seeking professional help with is still considered a taboo. Depicting scenes like this in some way shows the audience that seeking professional help is okay. The relevance of choosing the movie: I chose this movie because the diagnoses and symptoms were clearly shown in the movie. Karthik calling Karthik directed by Vijay Lalwani released in the year 2010. The actors Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone play the lead roles. The movie was produced by the actor Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.

Treatment plan

The treatment is usually lifelong even if the symptoms have subsided and often involves a combination of medications, psychotherapy and coordinated speciality care services. In the movie they show Karthik receiving counselling and helped him by making him face his fears In the movie after they diagnose Karthik as a schizophrenia patient they do not mention much about the treatment but they do show constant touch with the counsellor. It also showed him facing his fear by using the same kind of telephone.

Critique

The direction and story of the movie was very well done and written. The well-made movie kept all the audience engrossed throughout the movie. They clearly show the symptoms portrayed by the character.

Personal experience

The movie was nail biting throughout. As I was watching the movie specifically for the purpose of finding a psychological disorder I paid more attention compared to how I generally watch movies in a jolly and
