Lower blood glucose by stimulating glucose
uptake in skeletal muscle and fat, inhibiting
hepatic glucose production

Beta blockers and clonidine, corticosteroids, thyroid
supplements, estrogen, niacin, alcohol, ACE inhibitors,
MAO inhibitors, octreotide, oral hypoglycemic agents, and
salicylates
Hypoglycemia, allergy or hypersensitivity to it particular
type of insulin, preservatives or other additives; stress and
infection, renal/hepatic impairment, children under 18,
patients with visual impairment to rely on audible clicks
Hypoglycemia, hypokalemia, swelling, hypersensitivity
reactions (including anaphylaxis), lipodystrophy, pruritis,
erythema
Assess for hypoglycemia
Monitor body weight periodically
Monitor blood glucose every six
hours during therapy
Monitor serum potassium in
patients for risk of hypokalemia
Toxicity
Control of blood glucose levels in diabetic patients without
the parents of hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic episodes
Instruct patient on signs and
symptoms of hyper and hypo
glycemia!
Advise patient to carry a source
of sugar (candy, lollipop)
