CREDIT HOURS: 1 Credit-Hour Course
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course introduces students to the nature and purpose of a college education and assists students in
establishing and utilizing skills, resources, and strategies necessary for success in college.
The U.S. Department of Education requires that distance education courses provide regular and
substantive interaction. To meet this requirement, I have provided the following opportunities and/or
requirements for interaction in this course.
Sequence of activities and deadlines throughout the semester are provided in the course syllabus.
Required discussion forums allow for interaction between the instructor and students and will be
facilitated by the instructor.
Regular assignments submitted to Moodle for which the instructor will provide substantive
feedback.
Periodic announcements and reminders related to the course will be sent out via Remind.com
and/or Moodle.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
To promote for first-year students a positive adjustment and assimilation into the college setting
with an understanding of your motivation for being in college.
To help students learn and develop a set of adaptive study, coping, critical thinking, logical
problem-solving skills.
To reduce student anxiety about written and oral communication, enhance reading
comprehension, and provide supplemental practice in applying the knowledge student’s gain in
their other first-year courses.
