  1. Dirty or damaged disc
  2. Dirty or damaged seat
  3. Guide members hanging up
  1. Broken or missing air inlet spring 3."O|d style" pressure vacuum breaker (non- loaded air inlet valve)
  2. It is an SVB (See Book 9.5) During PVB Air Inlet Test, Air inlet valve does not open, and reading on field test kit will not drop. What does this indicate? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ”
  3. Leaky No. 1 shutoff valve

  5. Dirty or damaged air inlet valve disc
  6. Scale buildup on seat
  7. Damaged spring During PVB Check Valve Test, Check valve reading below 1.0 psid. What does this indicate? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ”
  8. Dirty or damaged check valve disc
  9. Dirty or damaged seat
  10. Damaged spring

During PVB Check Valve Closing Point Test (Test No. 2), water runs continuously from test cock No. 2. What does this indicate? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ”1. Leaky No. 1 shutoff valve During SVB (Either) Test, air inlet valve does not open, as field test kit drops to 0.0 psid. What does this indicate? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ”

  1. Air inlet disc stuck to seat
  2. Broken or missing air inlet spring
  3. Parallel installation with leaky No.2 shutoff valve
  4. PVB not SVB During SVB (Either) Test, Air inlet valve does not open, and reading on field test kit will not drop. What does this indicate? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ”
  5. Leaky No. 1 shutoff valve During SVB (Either) Test, Air inlet opens below 1.0 psid. What does this indicate? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ”
  6. Dirty or damaged air inlet disc During SVB (Check Valve Closing Point) Test 1, Check valve reading below 1.0 psid. What does this indicate? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ”
  7. Dirty or damaged check disc
  8. Damaged seat

Requirement: The static differential pressure across check valve # 1 must be greater that the relief valve opening point (as determined in test # 1) and at least 5. psid. What is the purpose and requirement of the DC {Double Check Valve Backflow Prevention Assembly) Test # 1: Tightness of Check Valve # 1 (USC 10th ed pg 278)? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ” Purpose: To determine the static differential pressure across check valve # 1. Requirement: The static differential pressure across DC check valve # 1 must be at least 1.0 psid. What is the purpose and requirement of the DC {Double Check Valve Backflow Prevention Assembly) Test # 2: Tightness of Check Valve # 2 (USC 10th ed pg 281)? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ” Purpose: To determine the static differential pressure across DC check valve # 2 Reguirement: The static differential pressure across check valve #2 shall be at least 1.0 psid What is the purpose and requirement of the PVB (Pressure Vacuum Breaker Assembly) Test # 1: Air Inlet Valve Opening Point (USC 10th ed pg 291)? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ”

Purpose: To determine the pressure in the body when the air inlet valve opens Requirement: The air inlet valve shall open when the pressure in the body is at least 1.0 psid above atmospheric pressure, and the air inlet valve shall be fully open when the water drains from the body. What is the purpose and requirement of the PVB (Pressure Vacuum Breaker Assembly) Test # 2: Tightness of Check Valve (USC 10th ed pg 297)? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ” Purpose: To determine the static differential pressure across the check valve. Requirement: The static differential pressure across the check valve shall be at least 1.0 psid. What is the purpose and requirement of the SVB ) Spil-Resistant Pressure Vacuum Breaker Assembly) Test # 1: Tightness of Check Valve (USC 10th ed pg 308)? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ” Purpose: To determine the static differential pressure across the check valve. Requirement: The static differential pressure across the check valve shall be at least 1.0 psid.

When testing the RP backflow device, and while observing the gauge, and introducin HP water behind the #2CV (RP Test Procedure 2, Step 3), and the RV begins to discharge, what action(s) do you take to troubleshoot the equipment? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ”

  1. You have a leaking # 2 Check Valve
  2. Proceed by reestablishing and give the #2CV a second chance, if discharge continues proceed to step #
  3. Record: a. RV - (obtained value at time of test). b. #2CV- leaked and needs repairs, cannot continue with test. c. #1CV ยท no test result. When testing the RP backflow device, and while observing the gauge, and HSNV is open one full turn and LSNV is open 1/4 turn, and gage reading does not drop to RV opening point (RP Test 1, Step 11), what action(s) do you take to troubleshoot the equipment? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ”
  4. The RP # 2 SOV leaking (direction of Flow)
  5. Close HSNV & LSNV and reseal the #2SOV
  6. Reopen LSNV & HSNV and reattempt to open RV (if good then proceed) if not, go to step #4. 4. Close the LSNV and attach fourth hose between TC#1 & TC#4 and bleed by opening TC#
  7. Open TC#4 to compensate for leak. Record All Values and Shutoff Valve #2 leaked.

When testing the RP backflow device, during the #2 Check Valve Test, you suspect a leaking # 2 Shutoff Valve (Backpressure), what action(s) do you take to troubleshoot the equipment? - Correct Ans: โœ”โœ”

  1. If gauge pressure begins to increase, close TC#2. If pressure remains steady or drops to low end โ€” Backpressure is not present.
  2. If gauge pressure increases then Backpressure is present and immediately close TC#4.
  3. Record: a. RV - (obtained value at time of test) b. #2CV - is holding tight (because the RV did not discharge) c. #1CV - (record the apparent as the actual) d. Note: #2SOV leaks with backpressure and needs to be replaced
