This extremely uncommon kind of cancer develops in the lining of the blood arteries
and lymph vessels. Angiosarcoma is a rare form of cancer. Among the components
of the immune system are the lymph vessels. The lymph tubes gather germs,
viruses and waste items from the body and dispose of them.
This type of cancer can occur any place in the body. But it most typically arises in
the skin of the head and neck. Rarely, it may form in the skin on other regions of the
body, such as the breast. Or it may occur in deeper tissue, such as the liver and the
heart. Angiosarcoma can occur in locations that were treated with radiation therapy
in the past.
