Seth Jagannath Bajaj Memorial National Moot Court Competition has evolved

INVITATION
RULES OF THE COMPETITION
“Administrator(s)” identifies as the Moot Court Committee of the Faculty of Law & Arts, RNB Global University, Bikaner, members thereof, or other persons appointed to conduct the competition.
“Appellant” refers to the side that argues on behalf of the Appellant at any given point in the competition.
“Competition” means the 7th Seth Jagannath Bajaj Memorial RNBGU National Moot Court Competition, 2024.
“Dress Code” refers to the formal attire, strictly black and white to be followed throughout the competition.
“Memorial” refers to the written arguments/ pleadings submitted by each team in accordance with the competition rules.
“Oral Round” connotes a team’s pleadings, wherein the arguments are presented by two oralists, and submitted before the Court, on behalf each of the parties against another team representing the opposing party.
“Oralist” refers to the participant presenting oral arguments in given rounds.
“Participant” refers to any member of any team. “Penalty” refers to deductions imposed on the memorial scores or oral pleadings of a participating team.
“Rebuttals” refers to the arguments presented by the Appellant(s) in response to the Respondent’s submissions at the end of the main pleadings of all the oralists.
“Researcher” refers to the participant who shall sit in the Researcher’s Test. Such a participant shall only be allowed to speak in the oral rounds at the discretion of the Administrator(s).
“Respondent” refers to the side that argues on behalf of the Respondent at any given point in the competition.
“Scouting” means the observation of the Oral Rounds of any other person who is not associated with the team.
“Sur-rebuttal” refers to the defence set up by the Respondent team in response to the rebuttals.
“Team Code” refers to the code provided by the administrator through which the participating Institution will be represented throughout the competition.
RULES OF THE COMPETITION
Participating teams may request clarifications to the official moot problem by sending an email to mccrnb@rnbglobal.edu.in. latest by 3rd March 2024 (11:59 PM).
2.A full list of clarifications shall be released by 5th March 2024.
The teams must ensure that they do not disclose the identity of their college or their names at any stage of the competition. Any kind of canvassing shall lead to the disqualification of the team, or the imposition of severe penalties as determined by the Administrators.
1. Memorial Submission (Softcopy) 1.1 Each Team must send a soft copy of their memorials by before 11th March 2024 , 11:59 P.M. to mccrnb@rnbglobal.edu.in. Memorials submitted beyond the deadline shall be subjected to a penalty of 2 marks per day. 1.2 Memorials shall be sent via mail in both PDF format (.pdf) & Word format (.docs) in the form of single file for each side of memorial and shall be named as TC (Team Code__) Appellant or Respondent. 2. Memorial Submission (Hardcopy) 2.1 Six Hard copies of the memorial from each side, i.e., 12 copies, 2 copies of compendium in total along with the travelling and accommodation form should be submitted at the Registration Desk on the date of the competition, i.e., 15th March 2024. 3. Memorial Format 3.1 All pages of the Memorial must be of A4 size with an equal margin of 1 inch on each side. 3.2 Except for the cover page, the Headings shall be 14 pt., and the text shall be 12 pt. The font style should be ‘Times New Roman’. The text should have 1.5 line spacing except for the Cover page. 3.3 The Hard Copies of the Memorial shall be printed on only one side.

4. Memorial Content 4.1 The Memorials should contain the following sections: ➢ Cover Page a. Blue Cover – Appellant b. Red Cover – Respondent ➢ Table of Contents ➢ Index of Authorities ➢ Statement of Jurisdiction ➢ Statement of Facts ➢ Statement of Issues ➢ Summary of Arguments Advanced ➢ Arguments Advanced ➢ Prayer 4.2 The Arguments Advanced should not exceed 25 pages. Non-compliance will result in a penalty of 1 mark per additional page. 4.3 The memorial as a whole should not exceed 40 pages including the cover page. 4.4 The citation should be in compliance with the 21st edition of Bluebook. Non-compliance will result in a penalty of 1 mark per page. 4.5 The entire content of the soft copies and the hard copies of the Memorial shall have to be the same. Non-compliance with this rule will entail penalties which may extend to disqualification. 5. Evaluation Criteria for Memorials
Understanding of Law and Extent of Research 25 Marks
Originality, Articulation and Clarity in Analysis 20 Marks
Knowledge and Integration of Facts 20 Marks
Logical progression of Ideas and Use of Authorities 15 Marks
Persuasiveness of presentation and correctness of citations 10 Marks
Grammar 10 Marks
Total 100 Marks
RULES OF THE COMPETITION
3. Quarter - Final Rounds The Quarter - Final Round will be conducted on 16th March 2024 & shall be knock - out round with four teams proceeding to semi - finals. For the purposes of qualification to the Quarter-Final Rounds the top 8 highest-scoring teams of the Preliminary Rounds shall be taken into consideration. In case of a tie, the team scoring higher marks in the memorial shall be declared as the winner. The fixtures for the Preliminary rounds shall be based on the Draw of Lots. For the Preliminary Rounds, each team will be given the opposing team’s Memorials on 30 Minutes prior to the Competition. The total time allocated to each team in this round is thirty minutes including the time for rebuttals (30 minutes). An oralist may reserve not more than eighteen minutes (18 minutes) for the pleadings. The time allotted can be extended only at the discretion of the judges. It is the discretion of the teams to decide the time they wish to reserve for rebuttals and sur- rebuttals which shall not be more than 5 minutes in any case. The time allotted can be extended only at the discretion of the judges. 4. Semi - Final Rounds & Final Rounds The Semi - Final Round will be conducted on 16th March 2024 & shall be knock - out round with two teams proceeding to finals. In case of a tie, the team scoring higher marks in the memorial shall be declared as the winner. The winning teams from the Semi-final Rounds shall advance to the Final Round, to be held on 17th March 2024. The total time allocated to each team in the Semi-Final forty minutes (40 minutes) and Final Round is forty-five minutes (45 minutes). It is the discretion of the teams to decide the time they wish to reserve for rebuttals and sur- rebuttals which shall not be more than five minutes (5 minutes) in any case. An oralist shall reserve not more than twenty-five minutes (25 minutes) for the pleadings for Semi-Final and Thirty minutes (30 minutes) for final. The time allotted can be extended only at the discretion of the judges.

X. DISQUALIFICATION
1. Scouting 1. 1 Only the participants shall be allowed to join the courtrooms during the orals rounds and no observer or any other person (on behalf of the teams) shall be given permission to join. 1.2 Teams shall not be allowed to observe the oral rounds of another team. Scouting is strictly prohibited and shall entail disqualification. 2. Copyright The copyright over the memorial submitted for the participation in the competition is assigned by the participant and also vest and fully in the RNB Global University. The participant shall certify in writing the originality of the material contained therein and shall be responsible for any claim or dispute arising out the further use and exhibition of these materials. Further use and exhibition of this material, electronically or otherwise, shall be the exclusive right of the RNB Global University and they shall not be responsible for any liability to any person for any loss caused by errors or omission in the collection of information, or for accuracy, completeness, or adequacy of the information contained in these materials. Distribution of these materials on affiliated websites such as RNBGU’s Website https://www.rnbglobal.edu.in/ does not consent to the any use for commercial redistribution either via internet or using some other form of hypertext distribution.
