A book report project for students where they create a cereal box cover and summary for the literature unit 'Stone Fox'. Students are required to write a report using a cereal box as a book cover, decorate it creatively, and include the title, author, setting, characters, and summary on different sides of the box. Don't miss anything!
After completing a reading unit, students will create a cereal box book report. This is an engaging, fun-to-make project where students need to write a book report on our current
look of a book cover.
Students will:
Need to bring a cereal box to school so that we can cover the entire box with a colored sheet of paper. Use the attached papers to put your report together. I have a sample in the classroom that the students have viewed. Make a creative book cover on the front of the cereal box that includes a title separate from the Title Outline. Be as creative as possible and use limited premade pictures. Paper cut-outs and hand drawn pictures have made some of the most creative covers yet. Use the Title Outline below to put on the top of your box. Use the Setting and Reporting Outlines to put on the right and left sides of your box. Finally, use the summary sheet to put on the back of your box.
Remember!
Use your personal-best handwriting when writing your ideas. You may want to make first and second drafts in a notebook before writing on the final project. Please talk with me if you have any questions about this project.

Left Side of the Box – Setting
Use complete sentences to tell where and when the story takes place. You may find that there are many settings, mention them. For example, if you were using the story “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” you might write:
The cold wind and swirling snow rips through London during the year of 1964. In a tiny, one- bedroom, wooden house, our main character Charlie Bucket, lives with his parents and all four grandparents. However, once Charlie finds a golden ticket in a Wonka chocolate bar, he is greeted to a world opposite his own – the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory a place full of color, sweet fragrances, and whimsical adventures. Where/When: place - time of year or season
Right Side of the Box - Characters :
List the main characters and write a few sentences about each one. For example, if you were using the story “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” you might include the following characters: Charlie Bucket is a poor, hungry boy who always looks on the bright side of life. He is respectful towards everyone and will refuse to take an extra severing of food because it would deprive the others in his family. Charlie shows his generosity further when he wins a trip to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory and invites his grandfather to go with him to share in the joy. Willy Wonka is the lively, but physically small owner of the town’s only chocolate factory. He can be both charming and insensitive, especially in the way he speaks to the five children that spend a day at his magical chocolate factory.
