Chapter 7 Formula List with Details
1. Kinetic Energy (K)
K = ½ mv2
Where:
m = Mass (kg)
v = Velocity (m/s)
2. Work (W) Done by a Constant Force
W = Fd cos(θ) = F d
Where:
W = Work (Joules, J)
F = Force (N)
d = Displacement (m)
θ = Angle between the force and displacement direction (degrees or radians)
3. Change in Kinetic Energy (Work-Kinetic Energy Theorem (ΔK))
ΔK = Kf - Ki = W
Where:
ΔK = Change in kinetic energy (J)
Kf = Final kinetic energy (J)
Ki = Initial kinetic energy (J)
W = Work done (J)

  1. Kinetic Energy (K) K = ½ mv^2 Where: m = Mass (kg) v = Velocity (m/s)
  2. Work (W) Done by a Constant Force W = Fd cos(θ) = F dᐧ Where: W = Work (Joules, J) F = Force (N) d = Displacement (m) θ = Angle between the force and displacement direction (degrees or radians)
  3. Change in Kinetic Energy (Work-Kinetic Energy Theorem (ΔK)) ΔK = Kf - Ki = W Where: ΔK = Change in kinetic energy (J) Kf = Final kinetic energy (J) Ki = Initial kinetic energy (J) W = Work done (J)
  4. Gravitational Work (Wg) Wg = m g d cos(θ) Where:

Wg= Work done by gravitational force (J) m = Mass (kg) g = Acceleration due to gravity (m/s^2 ) d = Displacement (m) θ = Angle between Fg and d

  1. Work Done Against Gravity and Total Work ΔK = Kf - Ki = Wa + Wg Wz = -Wg 6. Spring Force (Fx) Fx = -kx Where: k = Spring constant (N/m) x = Displacement from equilibrium position (m) 7. Spring Work (Ws) Ws = ½ k xf^2 - ½ k xi^2 If xi = 0 and xf = x, then Ws = -½ k x^2 8. Work Done by a Variable Force W = ∫ from xi to xf Fx dx Where: W = Work done (J) F(x) = Force as a function of position ‘x’ (N) xi and xf = initial and final positions (m) 9. Average Power (Pavg) Pavg = W / ΔT Where: ΔT = Time interval (s) 10. Instantaneous Power Instantaneous power = dw/dt
