Christian Worldview Paper “The Story of Reality” Anneken (Annekie) Viljoen WLD181E: Goodness, Truth, and Beauty Department of Business, California Baptist University Dr. Tim Mosteller 14 February 2022

“Worldview” is the main focus of Koukl’s attention. More specifically, a worldview shaped by Scripture and recommended to those who are not yet convinced. He claims, “Christianity is the story of how the world began, why the world is the way it is, what role we play in this drama, and how plot of the Story is resolved in the end.” The section on God has some very refreshing observations on God and creation that shape the whole story. Koukl’s emphasis that “The Story” is not about us but about God and his purposes. He is the main character. It is not so much about God’s wonderful plan for our lives but our lives for God’s wonderful plan. Koukl also touches on the fact that God is the creator of everything and therefore everything belongs to him. It is a story about peace shattered by rebellion, about love and betrayal, about conflict and self-sacrifice and ultimately about redemption but these are not the themes of he story. The story is really about the Kingdom of God and that He rules over the land and the seas and the sky. Koukl’s observation of humanity was spot-on. Humanbeings are made of physical things and are contingent and dependant. Their souls are non-physical and the location of the functions of the mind. It makes us exist and exist as the kind of thing we are meant to be. But, we are made in the image of God. We have transcendent value and have moral obligations towards each other. Having God’s image makes it possible for us to have a relationship with Him. Man was capable of living in harmony with God under His leadership but he could also betray the friendship. Humans were given moral freedom by God and instead of using it to honor Him, they used it to rebel against Him. Humanity exercising Free Will caused evil to enter the world and drove them further away form the perfect, good God. Evil brought brokenness, struggle, fallen angels, death. But God’s response catches all off guard. He steps into the picture to rescue human beings and solve the ‘Problem of Evil’.

decision you make about Christ will decide what happens at the final resurrection. The Story of Reality has much to offer, and I found myself at many points thinking that the observations were excellent, insightful, or otherwise important. Koukl explains concepts very clearly and simply – another obvious strength of the book. On the whole, Koukl certainly succeeds in telling The Story of Reality , and states its important service to the church and to the world. I agree with him that it is not just a story. It is a true story. It is the story of reality.
