COUNT 4: The hands come together. The line formed by the second knuckles of the non-gun hand is centered under the trigger guard and on top of the corresponding knuckles of the gun hand, and the index finger is placed on the trigger. The meaty portion of the non-gun hand must be placed on the exposed part of the grips. The backs of both hands must be parallel with the barrel of the gun. The gun hand pushes while the non-gun hand pulls thus creating counteracting forces. The shooter should attempt to straighten the gun arm however, if that is not possible, it may be slightly bent. The elbow of the non-gun arm is bent. Safeties, if any, are disengaged. COUNT 5: The gun is aimed on the target at eye level, the correct sight alignment and sight picture are achieved and the trigger is steadily pressed until the weapon fires. The student will distinguish between the gun/arm positions used in the one hand and two hand tactical shooting stances. Correct Answer: The one hand position is used when the target is within touching distance. The support hand must be in the center of the chest, and the wrist of the gun arm locked. The two hand shooting position is used when the shooter is any farther than touching distance to the target. As previously stated, this is a very strong and mobile position allowing the shooter maximum movement.
The student will identify the advantages of a barricade supported stance over a two hand, standing, stance Correct Answer: Standing Barricade Support Position Barricade supported shooting is important when a shooter must fire from behind cover for protection. It offers greater stability & increased potential for accuracy. The shooter must assume a standing, barricade supported position, with the feet spread approximately shoulder width apart, hips and shoulders facing down range with the weight of the body shifted onto the leg that is on the same side as your handgun. The gun is presented down range and the back of the support hand (if firing strong hand barricade) or the back of the gun hand (if firing from the support side of the barricade) is placed on the surface of the barricade for support. Always bring the gun up to eye level, and only apply enough pressure on the barricade to remove some of the "wobbles." The student will identify the advantages of the kneeling positions over the two hand standing tactical stance Correct Answer: The kneeling position provides the shooter with a lower profile, more concealment, and a stronger shooting position. Acceptable kneeling positions:
