REFLECTION
Climate change and natural disasters can have an impact on
our agriculture because they affect crop and livestock yields around the
world, resulting in changes in food and fiber consumption, agricultural
commodity prices, and farm incomes.
Natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, fires, earthquakes,
and tornadoes occur every year, posing a threat to agricultural
production. Agriculture is easily impacted by natural events and
calamities because it relies on weather, climate, and water availability
to survive. Contamination of water bodies, loss of harvest or animals,
increased susceptibility to disease, and destruction of irrigation systems
and other agricultural infrastructure are the most common agricultural
impacts of natural occurrences and disasters.
These factors can have a long-term impact on agricultural
production, such as crops, forest growth, and arable areas that need
time to mature. Natural disasters and natural events will have fewer
long-term consequences on agriculture and the environment if people
learn how to prepare for and recover from them.
