CSU/DSU - Answer The CSU terminates the digital signal and provides error correction and line monitoring. The DSU converts the data into frames understood by the LAN.

WAN switch - Answer a multiport service provider networking device used to switch traffic at Layer 2

circuit-switched network - Answer a dedicated circuit used to forward voice or data between a sender and a receiver

packet-switched network - Answer a network where data is split into packets and routed across a shared network

private WAN connections - Answer PSTN, ISDN, Ethernet WAN, ATM, and Frame Relay

public WAN connections - Answer DSL, cable, and satellite

dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) - Answer provides bidirectional communications over one strand of fiber

leased line - Answer A customer pays a monthly lease fee to a service provider to use a permanent dedicated connection from the customer premise to the provider network.

ISDN: Integrated Services Digital Network, provides a circuit-switching technology that allows the local loop of a PSTN to carry digital signals and thus, it provides higher capacity connections than dialup allows.

ISDN Basic Rate Interface (BRI) - used in home and small enterprises, it provides two 64 kbps B data channels and a 16 kbps D control channel.

ISDN Primary Rate Interface (PRI) - Used in larger organizations; provides 23 B data channels with 64 kbps and one D control channel with 64 kbps.

Frame Relay - A Layer 2 technology, which uses virtual circuits (VCs) to carry voice and data traffic between enterprise LANs.

Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) -Answer an extremely scalable technology using fixed length cells of 53 bytes and can send data at fast speed

Ethernet WAN - Answer a high-bandwidth Layer 2 WAN service using fiber optic cabling to provide connections in metropolitan areas
