Intro to Computer Hardware: Monitors, Mouse, Scanners, Printers, Joysticks, Keyboards, Exercises of Computer Science

An overview of various computer hardware components, including monitors, mouse, scanners, printers, joysticks, keyboards, and projectors. It covers their functions, differences, and advancements in technology. Older technologies like crt monitors and dot matrix printers are compared to modern flat-screen lcd monitors, optical mice, flatbed scanners, inkjet printers, and joysticks.

What you will learn

  • What are the differences between flatbed scanners and sheet-fed scanners?
  • What is the main difference between a computer monitor and a television?
  • What are the different types of mice and what are their unique features?

Practical no .1 Introduction to computer hardware
1. Monitor
A computer monitor is an electronic device that shows pictures for computers. Monitors often
look similar to televisions. The main difference between a monitor and a television that a
monitor does not have a television tuner to change channels. Monitors often have higher
display resolution than televisions. A high display resolution makes it easier to see smaller
letters and fine graphics.
The advent of display technology has paved the way for the continuous evolution of the
monitor, whether it's for computers, television, mobile devices or any device that has a
display. The current contenders for top-tier technology being used for display devices
includes Super LCD 3 (SLCD3) and Super AMOLED. It should be noted that LED displays
are actually just a kind of LCD display that use LED lights as backlight illumination.
A monitor is an electronic visual computer display that includes a screen, circuitry and the
case in which that circuitry is enclosed. Older computer monitors made use of cathode ray
tubes (CRT), which made them large, heavy and inefficient. Nowadays, flat-screen LCD
monitors are used in devices like laptops, PDAs and desktop computers because they are
lighter and more energy efficient.

2. MOUSE

Mouse is a very important part of a computer system.it plays a important role in a computer system.discription of mice is following.

  • Standard Two-Button: Left button for selecting, right button for properties
  • Wheeled Mouse - Wheel for scrolling
  • Trackball - Inverted mouse
  • (^) Touchpad - Touch/tap sensitive
  • “Eraser”/Joystick
  • Most mice have a round ball and rollers – rollers must be cleaned
  • Newer mice are OPTICAL, using LED and sensor to track movement

4.PRINTER

Printer is a output device of a computer system.with the change of time there is a changes in printers. The new one is better than older one. There are lots of changes can be performed in printers.

Printers has following types-

  • Inkjet Printers - Tiny dots of ink on paper
    • Can print high quality photos
    • Ink is expensive!
  • Laser Printers - Laser, plastic toner, and heat; drawback: no color
  • Color Laser Printers - ~$600 and up
  • Dot Matrix Printers

5.JOYSTIC

The joystick is mostly used when there is a need to perform a direct pointing or when a precise function is needed. There are different types of joysticks such as displacement joysticks, hand-operated joysticks, finger-operated joysticks, thumb/fingertip-operated joysticks.

Similar to the mouse in movement and usage, joysticks also include buttons, sometimes known as triggers. The difference between the mouse and the joystick is largely based on the fact that the cursor/pointer continues the movement in the direction of the joystick unless it is kept upright, whereas the mouse prevents the cursor from further movement until it is moved.

A laptop keyboard is different from a desktop keyboard to help reduce the size and the overall weight of the laptop. Most laptop keyboards are made smaller by placing the keys closer to each other and not always including control keys or a keypad. For a laptop to have all the same functions as a desktop keyboard, laptop keyboards use an Fn key that is used in conjunction with other keys to perform special functions. For example, pressing the Fn key and the up or down arrow on the keyboard shown below, increases and decreases the brightness of the screen.

7 Lcd projector

A projector is an output device that can take images generated by a computer or Blu- ray player and reproduce them onto a screen, wall, or other surface. Typically, the surface projected onto is large, flat, and lightly colored. For example, you could use a projector to

show a presentation on a large screen so that everyone in the room can see it. Projectors can produce either still (slides) or moving images (videos). A projector is often about the size of a toaster and weighs only

A projector or image projector is an optical device that projects an image (or moving images) onto a surface, commonly a projection screen. Most projectors create an image by shining a light through a small transparent lens, but some newer types of projectors can project the image directly, by using lasers. A virtual retinal display, or retinal projector, is a projector that projects an image directly on the retina instead of using an external projection screen.
