Connecticut Elks Assoc. Drug Awareness Essay Contest for 6th-8th Graders, Lecture notes of Technical English

Information about the connecticut elks association's drug awareness program essay contest for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The contest theme is 'the best me is drug free!' and participants must write their message themselves, but can get help with ideas. Entries must be hand written or computer generated, no longer than 250 words, and judged based on closeness to the theme, neatness, originality, grammatical structure, positive anti-abuse message, and age/language appropriateness. Each entry must include the student's full name, address, age, phone number, school, location, and grade, and local elks lodge name. Entries are due by february 14, 2022, and winners will be notified and sent to district and state competitions. Winning essays become the sole property of the connecticut elks association.

6th, 7th, & 8th grade students
2021-22 Theme:
The Best Me Is Drug Free!
Participants must write their message themselves, but they may get help from teachers,
parents, or friends in the form of ideas. Encourage them to consider how the theme
relates to drug awareness.
Length: no longer than 250 words
Paper size: 8 ½ “x 11” white, lined or unlined
Text: hand written or computer generated
Judging will be based on the following:
- Closeness to the theme - Neatness
- Originality - Correct grammatical structure
- Positive anti-abuse message - Age/language appropriateness
Each entry must have the following information printed on the BACK of the essay:
1. Student’s full name and full address
2. Student's age
3. Student's phone number (winning entries will be notified)
4. Student's school, location, and grade
5. Local Elks lodge name
DUE DATE:
Please return your essay to your local Elks lodge by February 14, 2022, or submit entry
on line by going to ctelks.org, clicking on the drug awareness contest link, and following
the instructions found there.
WINNERS:
Each lodge will select the top four in each grade, using the criteria listed above. The
local lodges will notify local winners. Winning essays will be sent to District
Competition. District winners will compete at the state level. The top four essays at the
state level will receive a certificate and gift from the State Association. All winning
entries become the sole property of the Connecticut Elks Association and may not be
returned.
