DEFINITION 1 The Counter Reformation took place during the same period as the Protestant Reformation, in 16th and 17th century. The Counter Reformation started with Pope Paul iii. It began with the Catholic Church in order to manage the discontent the church was facing. TERM 2

DEFINITION 3 The counter reformation was a movement to reform and improve the church. The Counter-Reformation began after Martin Luther's reformation, which made the many Protestant Churches. Which was why the Catholic Church did two things. They doubled their efforts, and also stressed some points of faith that the Protestant churchs views had put into danger. TERM 4
DEFINITION 4 It strengthened the doctrine and tenets of the Catholic Church. It stopped the further spread of Protestant Church (protestantism) It aimed to win back lands that had become Protestant To spread Catholicism to new lands and people TERM 5
DEFINITION 5 All this was largely successful, so the importance of the Counter Reformation was to reenergise the Catholic Church. The counter reformation made the Catholic Church aware of their past failings and it helped them prove to the world that they were willing and able to reform themselves. As a result, the Catholic Church remains today the major Christian church globally.

DEFINITION 8 A major part of the Counter Reformation was regaining lost souls. During the counter reformation there were attempts to reconvert areas of the world that had once been Roman Catholic for e.g England and Sweden. The Counter-Reformation was very successful in building the Church in South America and Asia mainly through the missionary work of Jesuits.
