CP 119 OSCE Tobacco Cessation Information The CP119 OSCE will assess competency with the three P1 Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs. During a Town Hall meeting with the Class of 2019 several students expressed concern that some community IPPE sites do not offer significant opportunities for one of the P1 EPAs (e.g., tobacco cessation counseling). In response to these concerns, we are providing access to web-based practice tobacco cessation counseling exercises. As a co-investigator on a tobacco cessation education-related research project, I have made arrangements for UCSF to have access to a series of six VIRTUAL PATIENTS (VPs) exercises. The goal of the VPs is to replicate a face-to-face encounter with a patient who uses tobacco AND to prepare you for the OSCE exercise with standardized patients. These activities are intended to help you master tobacco cessation counseling, by paralleling what you learned in CP111 and during IPPEs. You should allocate at least one hour for interacting with the VPs. There are six VP cases (John Legere, 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3; Tony Crosby, 2.1 and 2.2, and Carmen Gomez, 3.3), and each reflect a patient at a different stage of readiness to quit smoking. Please see the instructions below for access to the tobacco cessation VPs which are best viewed using Google Chrome as your web browser: https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/. HOW TO ACCESS THE VIRTUAL PATIENTS
IMPORTANT: Do not use your browser’s back or forward functions to navigate , because it will impact your scoring and the flow of the VP case.
