In the article by Thomas Dublin on the Lowell Mills the economic life was changing in many
ways but the most significant change was the textile mills of Lowell; Cotton cloth was always
Lowell's major product. But from its earliest years, the mills turned out a variety of textile goods.
Lowell Mills was crucial during the industrial revolution. Many changes were brought upon
them through the Lowell Mills; they were better improved working conditions, better
environment and better salary. But soon the system failed just as it was getting better. Workers
were replaced by immigrant women because they were more than willing to work for a low wage
with more hours.Overproduction became a problem and the prices of finished cloth decreased.
Since there was a low income, wages had to be reduced but women did not “ accept these
changes without protest” and they did . economic life was made easier and so were the
conditions.
