1. Introduction to CNS
- CNS = Brain + Spinal Cord
- Functions: Control center for sensory, motor, integrative activities
- Divided into:
- Gray matter (neuronal cell bodies)
- White matter (myelinated axons)
- Protects, processes info, regulates body functions
2. Neuron and Synapse
- Neuron = Structural & functional unit of CNS
- Properties: Excitability, Conductivity
- Synapse Types: Chemical (common), Electrical
- Synaptic Transmission:
- Presynaptic neuron releases neurotransmitter
- Binds to receptor on postsynaptic membrane
- Generates EPSP or IPSP
