"...A line is a dot that went for a walk."
Paul Klee
Course Description and Objectives:
Beginning Drawing is a start of exploring the elements of descriptive drawing; a remarkable visual language intended to
deepen students' drawing, awareness and sight skills as well as overall powers of imagination. Students will become familiar
with a broad range of subjects, media, and techniques that provide a framework for developing outstanding drawing skills
through the use of individual ideas and approaches. The concepts and principles of drawing from direct observation and from
memory aim to master basic skills to draw and express with greater knowledge, immediacy, and expressiveness. A rich
selection of master drawings and a progression of project assignments will provoke in students both curiosities about and
awareness of the long tradition and potent expression of drawing. Course presentations will consist of lectures and
demonstrations by the instructor, presentations and projects by the students, and gallery/museum visits and discussions.
Course Goals:
The act of drawing provides a 'testing' field for the student and imagination. This course will help students to develop and
demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in the following: Line Drawing, Value, Composition, Texture, Perspective, Materials.
Techniques, Tests as well as Critiques. The everyday sketching and note taking in the sketchbook will sharpen students'
drawing skills and broad their imagination.
