Running head: PULMONARY HYPERTENSION Hypertension is another name for high blood pressure. Pulmonary hypertension is when the blood pressure effects the lungs and the right side of one’s heart. Individual have tiny arteries in one’s lungs called pulmonary arterioles and capillaries soon become narrow blocked or destroyed. If an arteriole becomes narrowed, blocked or destroyed it becomes harder for the blood to flow throughout one’s lungs. When the pressure in the artiest become too high the blood is unable to run correctly initiating less oxygen in the blood. Common signs and symptoms of early pulmonary hypertension are; shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness, syncope, chest pain or pressure, edema and racing heart rate [ CITATION Pul17 \l 1033 ]. Pulmonary hypertension can progress slowly showing no signs or symptoms. Pulmonary hypertension is not always the easiest to diagnose but there are many tests that can be ordered to determine the underline diagnoses. Preliminary testing for pulmonary hypertension consists of blood work checking oxygen levels within the blood, chest x-rays, ECG, echocardiogram, pulmonary function tests and six-minute exercise tolerance test (diagnosis 2017). While there is no cure for pulmonary hypertension, treatment is designed to cope with symptoms in one’s everyday life. Anticoagulants are used to prevent blood clots from forming within blood vessels are arties. Anticoagulants are used as a treatment for one with pulmonary hypertension. This is a lifelong regiment for someone with this condition. Many people suffering from pulmonary hypertension
