2.1. Theoretical Framework The theory that appropriate for the study that the researchers conduct was related to the study discussed by Albert Bandura called social cognitive theory because it used in psychology, education, and communication, holds that allocate of an individual's knowledge accession can be directly related to distinguish others within the context of social interactions, experiences, and outside media influences and it has a high possibility to support and help the researchers study. In the case of the study using mass media in a particular place said, which is urban community, they used different kinds of mass media as a way of better communication. The information that they get from mass media might affect their knowledge and attitude towards the over use of mass media of students. The understanding of students regarding from mass media may affect the level of exposure that they get from the frequently use of mass media. Applying the theory, their knowledge and attitude might change overtime depending on the information that they get and how often they use that type of medium. 2.2 Literature Review 2.2.1 Local Literature Impacts of Media on Filipino Youth. In this study infers that the Filipino youth take part in internet based life ceaselessly to think what the impacts are on our lives, regardless of whether positive or negative. The constructive outcomes of online networking sites has affected youth such that it is viewed as an incredible hotspot for experts. They can be utilized as a source to begin another business or any calling. For instance if a companion is hoping to find procured for a line of work and he posted a status on his profile, so whatever other companion who realize any activity identified with him, he can send him couple of messages on his profile and that is the means by which it advantage individuals. They are numerous other positive parts of these long range informal communication sites. It might help in reinforcing the connections between the youthful ages. The negative impacts, in any case, is digital harassing, that happens generally in the web. This generally happens on the locales of online networking. Digital bulling is essentially an electronic base correspondence to despot an individual, frequently by sending undermining messages. Another antagonistic effect of long range interpersonal communication locales on more youthful age is that these destinations don't have exacting security, a large number of the individual data has been shared publically. Numerous scientists have been investigating a measure of research on how the outcomes of internet based life influence the Filipino Youth. As any web based life is
doesn't have severe protection, a considerable lot of the young don't have the foggiest idea about that easily overlooked details they uncover will get consideration. Or then again that they powerless against locales they uncover themselves in. It relies upon how every individual utilize the media, however, most use it further bolstering their good fortune. (Joe Kenneth Cura, 2017) 2.2.2 Foreign Literature Impact of media use on children and youth. The purpose of this study is to state what media do to youngsters and tell ways on how it affects them. Different factors have different effects. Issues of youngsters growing rebellious or changing over the years are very much common around the globe. According to this study, whether children are more resilient to the influence of television and advertisements are debated frequently. And the longer children watch television, the more they are influenced by it. Though, because of society's influence growing large upon media, not only will it give people information but slowly takeover of our lives and will become a part of our lifestyle, affecting us in different consequences. (Anthony Ford-Jones et.al, 2003) The influence of the mass media in the behaviour of students. The profoundly created and complex of innovation has grown up along the present style of the world which had acquaints the human with a wide scope of specialized apparatuses, just as interchanges today. Broad communications is a methods for passing on data all the while and available to the network everywhere throughout the world. In present time of globalization, the modernization make it less demanding for individuals to complete their everyday lives. In any case, this complexity has both positive and negative to the client. The mix-up in utilizing this office will turn into a risk that can contribute the social issues in the public arena. (Noradilah Abdul Wahab, Mohd Shahril Othman, and Najmi Muhammad, 2017) 2.2.3 Local Study Social Media on Students Academic Performance. In the Philippines however, Filipinos are declared as the most active users on a number of web-based social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. The use of social media has become so extensive in the Philippines that the country has been tagged as “The social networking capital of the world,” and has also become part of Filipino cyber culture. According to this study, the positive and negative effects of social media can increase student collaboration, improve participation, content rich resources and they are useful for team projects. (thesalettinianpublication, 2017)
2.2.4 Foreign Study The impact of media in life is it good, bad or somewhere in between? The result of this study, issues of media having different positive and negative effects are common around the globe. Additionally, according to Media Psychology, as it focuses on the relationship between human behaviour and media, it has been studied that these researchers were able to experience thrill and the burden of its evolution. Technology expands, influencing different markets, leading to a greater possibility of having more effects or consequences of media to someone. (careersinpsychology, 2017) 2.3. Research Simulacrum The figure shows that variables on this study assumed to have the development of attitude of students. In the current study, it assessed the experience that will result whether positive or negative consequences. This study examined the type of information from mass media that uses by the students. Research Questions This study aims to determine the positive and negative consequences of type of information from mass media upon the development of attitude of students. Specifically, it sought to the answer the following questions:
Development of attitude of students Type of information from mass media
This chapter introduced the primary subjects and present the discoveries which emerged out of the interviewing procedure and consequent information result from the selected participants. The key subjects that developed following information result accordingly to the development of attitude of student are their resources, type of mass media that they use, and the development of the attitude by the use of mass media. The majority of the subjects are associated, from breaking down the information in the development of the attitude of a student knowing different type of information using the mass media. Case 1: Wil Wil is a grade 12 student under the strand of Humanities and social science and is currently studying in one of the excellent Universities in Nueva Ecija. He has been recognize for his different academic excellence award in that university. The positive and negative consequences of mass media: Beneficial Proper citation in mass media is very helpful but you just have to know the sources and use the information from mass media responsibly. Must know where to get your proper and legit sources because there are a positive and negative consequences for using mass media. They must see that they have the important materials, time, and so on to complete their task without any problem because of the fabricated resources. ” (For me the positive consequence is that it’s an easy access and students will have more sources. It will give you more choices but the negative consequence is that there are a lot of news, articles and sources that we don’t know what is accurate. Given that everything that is posted or uploaded online can be edited.) Pointing out that mostly mass media gives you a lot of choices but not every information can be useful or accurate. Getting a resources the help for checking if your information is right in mass media “ Oo lalong lalo na pag gumagawa ako ng research o thesis kase pag nag search ka online meron ka makikita pero yun nga lang dapat wag mong kakalimutan na iverify ung sources and yung mga nilalaman ng articles na binabasa mo is legit. malaking bagay din sya kase hindi naman lahat meron access sa libro di rin naman lahat may time pa na mag basa ng libro so anything ngayon pwede mo ng isearch agad .” (Yes especially in doing a thesis and
conducting a research. But never forget to check the sources to see if the information you get is accurate. It is also a big help given that not everyone not everyone has the time to scan different books as their source. And by our technology, everything can be searched now.) The effect of positive and negative consequences of mass media: Awareness to know the limits when using mass media and use it where it is only needed. (Use the information responsibly and make sure to use it only when it is needed. Never use it to harm anybody as well. Know your limitations when using the information you have.) The development of attitude upon the students: Limitations When asked about the attitude that is develop because of the positive and negative consequences of information from mass media, Wil said about that mass media affects the students’ attitude is by using the information they can get from mass media correctly and responsibly. He said about the negative consequence “ Yung negative don is that copy-paste na lang di na nag babasa sa libro parang anything na makita nila agad basta icopy na lang hindi na binabasa. Parang tinuturuan maging tamad ung estudyante in a ways na dapat ginagamit talaga ung libro. ” (The negative consequence, turns out that due to the easy access of sources from mass media, students tend to do the easiest way as well. Without double checking the whole context they will copy the information immediately. It is like mass media is teaching students to be lazier than they are for avoiding using books. Sooner or later students might forget to use books because of the easy access mass media can provide for them. And of course not everyone reads solemnly so avoiding "copy-paste" method is observed infrequently. And the bad effect is that students don't have assurance that the context or the facts that they get from mass media is accurate because they don't scrutinize.) The researcher
but some are true but you really need to take a look on the different sight to make sure that the information that you gathered is legit. She states the negative side of it. ” (It is the starting point where a student became hard headed for spending too much time on mass media instead to use that time for other activities where it can develop them as a better person.) The development of attitude upon the students: Laziness Standing as a peopleware it develops attitude of an individual because of being too much exposed and taking this as part of daily life. Kimmy state that with the help of mass media you can see the development of attitude as a student. ” (As a student I think you can see the big contribution of mass media in our attitude. Having an easy access in things that we can also use for another thing and activities that we wanted to do but as you can see laziness is present because of the easy access that we cannot be remove easily. ) Lastly, it is very easy for students in this generation to get information from mass media but it also affects their attitude by being too lazy to get a much more reliable source. For her, mass media is helpful yet it takes too much of a person's time instead of dividing their time for other activities. Case 3: Katie Katie is a sixteen years old senior high school students and she is the daughter of both bank employee. She is currently studying in one of the popular University in Nueva Ecija taking up the strand of Accountancy and Business Management. According to her it is not easy to study without the use of technologies because of our modern society. Positive and negative consequences from mass media: Facilitative Katie stated about the positive consequences it helps a lot. She believes that using mass media is become a facilitative when it comes to studying. (As a students it helps a lot
because we get knowledge and information that will guide to proper doing of assignments or task in terms of studying). She even stated that the negative consequences is that there are some articles that is not containing facts. (There are some articles that we read and it is not legitimate where we can get false information or also known as fake news.) She describe that presenting the idea in mass media can be a fallacy or often plausible argument using invalid inference. The effect of positive and negative consequences of mass media: Inspiring As stated by Katie the development of positive attitude helps them to improve their attitude “ Nakakatulong ito sa aming kaugalian kapag kunwari may nabasa kaming mga tungkol sa ugali na dapat ginagawa ng isang mag-aaral, naiinspire kami o natututo kami na ganoon din ang gawin namin na galing sa libro .” It helps us to improve our attitude for instance when we read some books regarding from the proper attitude of students we get inspired and learned that we should do the same thing. The development of attitude upon the students: Boundaries As mentioned by Katie from the widespread use of mass media there are practices that affect the attitude which can cause to the teenager to do the same thing from what they saw even if it’s not good to them. Learning is the first thing might student apply to them so that they are able to utilize proper using of mass media. ” (For the positive we learn to become good and we also have the knowledge of following instructions from mass media.) And lastly, she says that negatively, as the central theme of this study it should have boundaries or limitations when using mass media to assure that attitude is not affected. (And for the negative, for example too much use of mass media there are things that is explicit for us to be seen or there are information that we see that is not proper and might affect our attitude.) She told me that the information from mass media is not helpful in some aspects because not all the information there are available for her to take and it should be study before to note it as a fact. As the central theme of this study it should have boundaries or limitations when using mass media to assure that attitude is would not be affected especially the negative one.
trends that is being informed in mass media and there could be news that isn't too appropriate and may drive the students to do it as well. The development of attitude upon the students: Observant For Laz, the attitude developed to the students because of the information from mass media is that the students became more observant and active to the issues that are happening in our society. (Being observant and more active about the recent issues in our society and surroundings are some of the attitudes that can be developed from mass media.) He acknowledging that not everything that can be seen nor hear from any types of mass media can be very helpful for the students. Almost all of the participants use the same mass media for their heavy routine with the use of cellphone, computer, television and books where they gathered their data for collecting information. They also use frequently the same common social media to communicate with one another such as Twitter, Instragram, Facebook, Youtube and other social networking sites. There is only a difference between how they consume time using mass media where some of them only use it for a hour of two, using it only for educational purposes and use it in every period. The reason for this chapter was to feature the discoveries which developed on record of the interviews that were completed. It is obvious from the discoveries of this research study that mass media has a great effect especially on the attitude of a student. As the statements have appeared, using mass media must be responsible where you should think before you click because anyone can be affected especially the younger ones. On the bright side, a portion of the participants engaged with this study recognized that using mass media in a right way with being knowledgeable is a great help to make things easier.
