Alejandro Cristobal Diaz Orellana Dr. Michael Salitrynski ENGL 1010 20 September 2022 Megamind Hits hard Megamind is a remarkable animated film filled with humorous and hilarious scenes that the whole family may enjoy. The film also features a great selection of soundtracks that matches the scenes, making the audience immersed in this film. Although the plot isn't solid, Megamind is a must-see for anyone looking to have a good time laughing, thanks to the unique brand of humor brought to the role by Will Ferrel (the voice of Megamind). Overall, Megamind is an enjoyable movie that everyone must watch. MegaMind is a parody and a gentle satire of classical superhero stories. As stated by Simon Abrams, “Megamind is filled with intermittently very funny pop-culture parodies” (Abrams). Megamind is considerably a classical villain but in a satirical way. He possesses all the stereotypical villain traits - an evil lair, robotic minions, dark clothes, and constant bad puns towards his arch-rival, Metro Man. However, instead of being evil with malicious intentions, like a classic supervillain, He is a childish person who jokes around. According to Berardinelli, "Megamind's comedy is effective, a perfectly acceptable family feature with a lively pace and sufficient cartoonishness to engage children while not boring their accompanying parents to death" (Berardinelli). This movie exaggerates the events happening throughout the film for a comical effect. One of the funniest moments in this movie is when Megamind states that he is the most intelligent creature on earth. However, he eventually
mispronounces basic words and lacks advanced vocabulary, which is funny because we don't expect that the most intelligent creature has these problems. The music is one of the movie's most remarkable and memorable things; it provides the fact that Megamind is a villain and engages in criminal activities. As stated by Berardinelli, "The music is well-selected, and the style is clean and uncluttered" (Berardinelli). The music selected, primarily '80s heavy metal, gives this film its unique touch making this experience new, exciting, tremendous, and remembered. Some of the themes chosen are George Thorogood & The Destroyers - “Bad To The Bone,” Elvis Presley-” A Little Less Conversation,” Guns N's Roses-” Welcome to the jungle.” One example where the music fits nicely is when Megamind, when he was a kid, realizes that his destiny is to be a villain, and to highlight this ideal of his, the song “Bad To The Bone” by George Thorogood & The Destroyers starts to play. The music meshes easily and conveys a sense of stability and repose towards the action and ideals of the protagonist, Megamind. Both the development and conclusion in Megamind's film are predictable and unoriginal; according to Lou Lumenick, "Megamind quickly becomes boring" (Lumenick). Since this film doesn't show us something new that we have ever seen before in an animated movie, this movie can quickly become a forgetful film because of its unoriginal plot. Sometimes it can get too boring with the unnecessary fillers that don't contribute to the movie's development. As stated by Brian Tallerico, "Megamind doesn't have a memorable story" (Tallerico). From the film's middle, it was predictable that Megamind would transform into a good person. Because of this, this film's conclusion was unsatisfactory, given that the ending was so evident and unoriginal.
