Importance of Censorship for the Sake of Young Children
Before talking about censorship, we need to define the meaning of that word itself; “The
suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene,
politically unacceptable, or a threat to security” (Censorship). Many people argue whether
censorship should be allowed, and who has the authority to decide on what should or should not
be censored. In our society, more things become acceptable every day. What was not acceptable
yesterday, is acceptable today. The world is changing in the blink of an eye. Sometimes I fear
where those changes will lead to. My biggest fear lies for the future generation. Today, kids have
access to so many things that I would never have thought they would. All of the electronics they
are exposed to can drastically change their perspective on life. In today’s society we hear more
of how children dream of becoming a famous blogger on the YouTube channel instead of
becoming a famous writer. Censorship plays an important role in our life, especially when it
comes to children. Organizations such as FTC and FTC are important to protect our society from
certain form of speech, while parents needs to do their job of protecting children from
unacceptable information from their view.
What are those organizations that try to protect us from certain from of speech? We all
have probably heard of the FTC or FCC. What do they do? Federal Communications
Commission (FCC), is the organization that regulates certain forms of communication on radio,
television, and so on. Because of the work of this organization, children may not hear cussing
words on the television, or in a certain song they hear. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), is the
organization that tries to eliminate and prevent practices of the false information in order to
protect the public. Because of this organization, a certain advertisement on the television
claiming a cancer cure will not be allowed due to its false information. I argue both of those
