In the study conducted by Bsharat and Zahavy, they looked into how nurses’ involvement in parent’s concerns about safety influenced the parents to help keep their hospitalized child safe. When researchers looked into this, they noticed that if head nurses set a good role model towards the parents and really touched on the importance of having a safe atmosphere to keep their child safe, then parents would be more likely to look for the right alarms to help their child. Researchers used the attribution theory model on both the parents and the nurses end since they wanted to observe how they both reacted to the study. If nurses believe that parents will help the patient and call them at the right times, then they are more willing to explain what to look out for when looking after their child and when to call the nurses in for help. Another motivation for nurses to do this, is because in this study, they were giving them more praise and acknowledgement when the scenario went well. The parents will have an internal locus of control since they believe they know what exactly to look for and when to call a nurse in for the safety of their child. They are also motivated to do this because in the end, it is helping the patient, which is their child. The researchers concluded that there was a two-way street in this interaction between nurses and parents involving the safety of the child/patient. They explained that it is due to the motivation from both parties to get the acknowledgement and care that they are both looking for.
