There will be four exams, one covering the concepts and procedures discussed in each of the four units. These are practical exams in which you will analyze the results of an experiment and produce a brief report on the analysis. You will be allowed to use any reference materials you wish; however, you must complete the test within the time allotted. During the exam period, you will produce an Excel spreadsheet analyzing the data as well as a Word document describing the results and displaying a relevant figure. (You will produce the figure in Excel, but you will copy and paste it into your Word document.) You will also turn in an electronic copy of each at the end of the exam. (Make sure you save a copy for yourself.)
Exam 1 will cover descriptive statistics. You will be given one experiment description and accompanying data set. You will need to compute descriptive statistics and generate a graph. You will also be asked to identify the elements of the experiment.
Exam 2 will cover two-group designs. You will be given one experiment description and accompanying data set. You will need to determine which analysis to use based on your understanding of how the experiment was designed.
Exam 3 will cover multiple-group designs, analyzed by ANOVA. You will be given one experiment description and accompanying data set. You will need to determine which analysis to use based on your understanding of how the experiment was designed.
Exam 4 will cover non-experimental designs. You will be given one experiment description and accompanying data set. You will need to determine which analysis to use based on your understanding of how the experiment was designed.
Each exam will be worth 50 points, up to 5 points for each of the following:
