1. How do you explain why more American (Politician, Businessmen) get behind the idea of
American Expansion?
a. The only way to continue industrialization growth was to expand the market to other
countries, make goods available to consumers of the other countries, because they
realize that the people in America weren’t enough to continue the development of
industry. So they need to expand our market to other countries Ex. (Create in Roads to
China )
b. Also the fear of being left behind by the other countries, because other countries were
expanding and developing in other countries Ex.(Britain own 60% of Africa)
2. Why was the Spanish American war a pivotal point in American and world history?
a. We gained land and the power as a super power. We practiced imperialism.
3. What did TR do as president to promote American power? (specific things)
a. TR promoted the idea of the creation of the Panama Canal. The corollary to the Monroe
doctrine which was preventing the European countries to recolonized those free
nations.
b. TR sent the Great white fleet around the world to prove and show the Japanese and
other countries American’s Power.
c. Wanted to invest in the fruits companies in Central America.
4. How do we get involved into this war? What brought this about? (Specifics)
a. The sinking of the Lusitanian, Germany attacked innocent passenger vessel and killed
over hundred Americans
b. The Zimmerman telegram, the German ambassador asking the Mexican ambassador to
attack the US and will regain land they lost in the war.
