“Made In LA” – Movie Review
LABOR AND WORKPLACE ISSUES
1. Maria thought that fighting was her only option because they tried complaining and
trying to discuss their retail issues but all of that came to nothing. She believes that all
humans have rights regardless if they were citizens or immigrants. They could have
addressed their complains directly to the CEO’s of the company through any sort of
communication instead of seeing that fighting is the only choice after all. I believe there
were other options but if nothing get your rights back other than to fight, then be it.
2. I think it is because of the health care issues and the pay checks that the country needs
to provides immigrants if they were hired in a better job other than what she calls “jobs
of exploitation”. The lack of documentation of a worker shows the employers what type
of workers they are and of course a college student with a bachelor degree will have a
better job than a high school graduate with a diploma. To prevent employers from
exploiting undocumented workers I think that a routine check up on the workers and
knowing their capabilities and skills instead of judging on looks or names or where is the
worker from. In my opinion I think that the citizens are the ones that will also benefit
from protecting the rights of workers because citizens will have a better job opportunity
to get hired.
3. The CEO’s and the managers benefit the most of the cycle because since everyone is
getting paid less and less, CEO’s receive the big money. The workers and manufacturers
are the ones harmed because of the very low payments they get according the hard
work they have done to actually make these clothes out of cottons and threads.
Consumers are actually neither benefiting nor losing because they get the clothes they
pay for and those clothes like “Forever 21” are not cheap. And most of that money goes
the managers of the clothing company. Those people are the only ones responsible for
breaking the cycle and they should split the payments in such a way so that everyone
gets paid by the amount of their work. Costumers will also benefit from that which will
make clothes cheaper.
IMMIGRATION
4. Most of the immigrants have very low education or very little money to educate and get
a career they have dreamt of. It always has been that way starting from the past
generations to now. People migrate to the Unites States because they want to find a
career that will provide them with a lot more money that they make where they are
from. So the main reason to migration is money and/or maybe education.

  1. A lot of those links from the past generations of women working has stayed the same and a lot also have changed. Where the workers in the past lost some of their rights and were paid very little money for their work.  ACTIVISM
  2. Maria’s discomfort in the classroom shows that she is not a very social person and have struggled to get to this position. I think organizing activism is very important where you can get most of what you are trying to say or done in a more unique and organized way.
  3. I think it is a smart analysis where she demonstrates that the blocks at the bottom of the pyramid are actually the most important blocks where if she were to remove them the whole pyramid would fall down and that applies to them and the whole company.
  4. Knowing things can make you lonely in a way where if you did not know about something it means you don’t have to worry about it or have it even in your head. It makes you lonely to know that you don’t know so much about things. And in her position where she was learning things from her traveling she started feeling lonely because of that. Ignorance also can hurt her in a way that she may not know something that could help her along with their boycott or raise more money. 2
