Activity: Find one work of art that either intrigues/fascinates/amazes you. You are free to choose what type of art, it can be a film, a product of an artisan, a painting, a sculpture, etc. After choosing, explain your reasons (why does it intrigue/fascinate/amaze you). Do it in no less than 10 sentences. Film: 1917 (2019) - April 6th, 1917. As an infantry battalion assembles to wage war deep in enemy territory, two soldiers are assigned to race against time and deliver a message that will stop 1,600 men from walking straight into a deadly trap. Explanation: 1917 is a beautiful work of art. This film is supposed to show you, not tell you. It had some of the best camera work I've ever seen. The acting, costumes, and setting made everything feel authentic. Director Sam Mendes meant the "continuous shot" to give the feeling of "no resting, keep moving," which made the movie much more impactful. I felt every emotion I needed from this movie because the characters weren't so ham-fisted with a writer's perspective of a fabricated life. The character development was in the idiosyncrasies and expressions presented by the characters. George MacKay played a Veteran of the Battle of Somme who'd already seen horrors. And as his journey goes on, you can tell how these situations are developing him in how he acts. Like during the scene in the forest with the singing soldier where he looks completely dead inside, but you can tell all the emotions he's feeling. This movie also had some of the most breathtaking cinematography, creating the illusion that it was only one continuous shot while giving us some spectacular moving pictures. Words can hardly describe this work of art and the dedication and resources required to make it possible. Once you start watching this movie, you become a part of it. Reference: 1917 (2019).
