Your chosen profession
You need to include an explanation of what you chosen as your future career path. Describe the
industry you career will take place in as well as the type of activities you would have to perform. You
should consider including links to websites and pictures to enhance your description.

Your resume should also be present. Your resume should follow standard resume guidelines of being

of the information. This should not read like an essay.
Cost of Living Analysis

Introduction

The final project for CIS100 is where you will develop a web page that is designed to focus on the preparation for your future career. In this course, you have had a Career Project assignment to have you explore the uses of technology in your chosen profession and you have had a Buying a Computer assignment that focused on identifying computer configurations and vendors that you could purchase a computer that would meet the technology requirements of your career. In addition, you have completed assignments that revolve around budgeting and finance. In this final project, you will develop a website that would be the result of research you have conducted for your future chosen profession.

Website Content

Your website must contain the content described in this section. You should use the applications you have learned this semester to build various parts of the content.

Your chosen profession

You need to include an explanation of what you chosen as your future career path. Describe the industry you career will take place in as well as the type of activities you would have to perform. You should consider including links to websites and pictures to enhance your description.

Resume

Your resume should also be present. Your resume should follow standard resume guidelines of being only a single page. Your resume should be targeted towards a summer internship that would be helpful to you reaching your career goals. Since your resume is essentially a web document, you should include relevant links to websites for schools you have and are attending, organizations with which you have prior work experience, honor societies, clubs, etc. Consider these links as ways of providing additional information to a potential employer.

Potential Employment Study

You should include at least 3 potential employers. You should do a comprehensive study of each employer including location, type of industry, number of employees, potential salary/compensation, and the common uses of technology. The information of this section should be summarized as table(s), bulleted list, enumerated list, or some other format that is good for giving a concise synopsis of the information. This should not read like an essay.

Cost of Living Analysis

Based on the location of these employers and your career path propose 3 cost of living analyses. The difference of each analysis would be based on the salary and location. In your analysis consider the cost of living expenses from your excel assignments. Each analysis must be thorough and realistic. You will also need to state financial goals that you would have that may include: buying a home, retirement, buying a car, savings, etc. As a part of your cost of living analysis, you should show a plan for achieving your financial goals. This would include showing how much needs to be saved for a down payment and approximate monthly payments or the amount that needs to be saved each month. Your plan to achieve your goals is based on the type of goals you have set forth.

Your Technology Needs

Your technology needs may not be entirely based on a desktop machine; you may need a portable machine, special cell phone, PDA, or some other specialized equipment (that could be classified as a

computer). In this section you should give a reasonable description of the device(s). You need to include costs/descriptions of the device(s), the accessories, and the software you would need. There should be justification for each device and accessory. You should not simply base your technology needs on the current use of technology in your industry, you should also consider future uses. For example, how might technology be useful in this industry in the future? Are there ways you can identify how a computer could add efficiency to the activities you may perform? There is no cost limit on this section; however, be realistic in your assessment.

Procedures for the Assignment

This assignment will require that you set up a yahoo account, join the specified yahoo group, and activate a geocities website (given to all yahoo account owners).

  1. Create a yahoo id. Be sure this is “professional” id. Visit http://www.yahoo.com and click on the sign-up link. Follow the instructions here to set up your id.
  2. Create a geocities page. Visit http://geocities.yahoo.com/ and its time to learn how to use geocities to build webpages. The following is a list of tools you will see on this website: a. Use Yahoo! PageWizards as one way (not as much flexibility) b. Use Yahoo! PageBuilder for more control and flexibility c. Use Web Site Add-Ons for enhancing your website d. To upload files such as your resume(HTML format), excel tables (HTML format), etc. use the Easy Upload and File Manager. e. The HTML Editor can be used when you need to fine-tune the HTML
  3. Resources from your textbook: pages 100-102, page 777 (online-resume help, you may only use WP 12 wizards for developing the resume), and others.
  4. After you experiment some of the tools, design your website. Keep in mind that if you have an ambitious design then you may have to scale it back in order to complete it.
  5. Build your website without the content details i.e. leave placeholders. This will allow you to check the navigation and the look and feel of your site. For example, you may have links that go to other sites or links to blank HTML files where your content will be placed later.
  6. Develop your content using your previous assignments and new information. As you develop content, add it to your website.
  7. Add the bells and whistles to make your website standout.
  8. Do not put personal information on your website such as addresses and phone numbers and real e-mail addresses. This is for your security when developing online material. Use your newly created yahoo address as the e-mail address on your site when appropriate.
  9. Submit a link to your website to webct, and submit your HTML files to webct as your content. We will show websites during the final exam time for our class. ALL FILES ON THE WEBSITE MUST BE IN HTML.
