Gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) is a clinical syndrome characterized by epigastric abdominal pain and postprandial vomiting due to mechanical obstruction. The term gastric outlet obstruction is a misnomer since many cases are not due to isolated gastric pathology, but rather involve duodenal or extraluminal disease.

Gastric Outlet Obstruction Gastric outlet obstruction * Definition: It is failure of complete gastric emptying. In the past , this pathology is called pyloric stenosis which is not accurate name because the obstruction is commonly in the first part of duodenum not in the pyloric region . * Pathology: A. Duodenum or pyloric region : Stenosed & show the specific pathology (e.g. fibrosed duodenal ulcer or cancer pyloric region). B. Stomach: = At first the stomach is hypertrophied (hypertrophic gastritis). = Later on the stomach is dilated with its mucosa is atrophic and ulcerated due to retention of gastric contents (atophic gastritis). = The stomach contain copious dirty infected contents . C. Intestine: Normal and collapsed. Gastric outlet obstruction (pylorus)
