The general perception is that homeless people are hobos, bums and vagabonds, who deliberately live unhealthy lives. I found it to be a false perception during my research. The modern homeless person may be a single mother who faced domestic abuse or a teen who was kicked out by his or her alcoholic father or a person whose skills have become redundant in new market. Initially I had found out that most of them were suffering from diseases and many did not have access to public healthcare.

Health Issues Among Homeless Subject: Sociology Columbia University The general perception is that homeless people are hobos, bums and vagabonds, who deliberately live unhealthy lives. This is what also drove me into this research as I wondered whether these people had access or not to public healthcare. As I lost every bit of negative attitude toward homeless people, I do think that my study would help to change popular opinion about people suffering from homelessness. This is also important because if people are sympathetic to homeless people cause then only governments would take necessary and desired actions critical to their wellbeing. One of the major issues being faced by them was that they could not avail public healthcare because of lack of address documents. Governments can do policy changes but that would require public awareness and thereby pressure. I do hope my study can help in a small way to achieve change of attitude among public toward homeless people. I do want to wake up masses toward our moral duty as a human being and a Christian. I did further research to seek remedial measures after identifying and diagnosing the problem. It is often said among research quarters that proper identification of a
problem is almost equivalent to half the solution. The problems identified were many including lack of recuperation facilities for a homeless person. The people suffering from homelessness are the ones who have maximum repeat entries in hospitals. This is because they are discharged like other patients for bed rest and care. The care required for recuperation is not available to homeless people and they fall sick repeatedly. Though proper documentation of problems faced by homeless people with regards to healthcare access, I do hope that my research project would add to the documentation done on the problem. I also do hope that private advocacy organizations as well as other non- governmental bodies would be able to utilize my research as part of their efforts. I do hope to further build on the research conducted and individually asses the feasibility of my recommendations as topic of research in itself. I do think that my background in carpentry would help me better understand possible solutions and their costings to build recuperation centers within shelter houses I also hope to use my engineering knowledge to come up with cheaper housing solutions for poor, as exposure to be in open air itself becomes one of the causes for diseases. As an undergraduate student at Liberty College, I want to continue pursuing this research because there is no end to further study on any topic. Moreover, it would add to my aim of adding to public documentation available on this topic. I would want to interact more with people suffering from homelessness so as to refine my opinion and the recommendations of my study. I would want to research if any new health initiatives are being taken for homeless people anywhere in the united states. I would want to keep track so as to increase my knowledge on the topic.
