The human body requires 8-10 cups of water a day. So while standing in front of a vending machine with no bottled water, most consumers try soft drinks because they are cheaper depending on the brand and more appealing by taste. However soft drinks such as Coke, contain lots of sugar which can lead to health problems. There are 12 ounces of sugar in a can of coke. Without bottled water the temptation of buying these products is much greater in most cases depending on the consumer. Though water bottles may harm the environment, soft drinks are a greater harm to consumer health. Bottled water is more expensive than Coke, or any other sodas, but bottled water is more healthier and has the benefits for your body. About 2.1 million people of the world are already obese. With water bottles gone, most consumers will start going towards the unhealthy side. TERM 3
Maria Harter, chairman and CEO of one of the largest independent publishers left in America said: I remember the world before bottled water. I remember pulling into a gas station when I was a teenager and looking at a soda machine and making a desperate wish that one dayone dayI would be able to get some nice cold water out of there. Why? What drinking fountains of the day dispensed was almost always foul tasting and lukewarm. And I have always found sugary drinks to leave a horrible aftertaste that actually makes me MORE thirsty, not less. I often pack my own water. But sometimes, sometimeslike on a road tripthat water runs out or gets too warm to drink. Sometimes my kids cry in the backseat that they are thirsty and really want water. Not soda, which they dont even really like, but water! What am I supposed to say to them? Sorry, honeys, but you have to drink soda? TERM 5
Broken remnants of glass are the cause of thousands of serious injuries each year, especially in poor neighborhoods, which is the main reason they were largely replaced by plastic in the first place. The switch was made initially by moms, because kids could carry the bottles safely. A study in distressed Philadelphia neighborhoods showed that broken glass injuries from bottles incurred in public spaces, especially by children, were still quite common. Also, glass bottles in a playground are hazardous because the glass can harm children. Plastic weighs much less than glass and therefore uses less fuel to ship and transport. So by banning water bottles you dont only encourage unhealthy drinks, but it could also lead to using up more glass bottles. TERM 8
