Chlamydia

-Most common bacterial std in US -Considered at an epidemic state in college age kids -Women are three times more likely to contract -sypmtoms in women: unusual discharge, frequent urinating and burning, abnormal bleeding, lower abdominal and back pain, pain during intercourse, low grade fever symptoms in men: unusual discharge, burning sensation, itching and burning of urethra, pain and swelling of testes, low grade fever, THIN AND CLEAR DISCHARGE TERM 7

PID

DEFINITION 7 -can cause ectopic pregnancies and sterility -not an std - symptoms: tenderness or pain in lower abdomen, high fever, chills TERM 8

Syphilis

DEFINITION 8 -can contract by touching the sore or any cut or scrape that goes directly to blood stream -4 stages: 1) Primary stage: chancre sore 2) secondary: itchless painless rash, genital warts 3)latent stage: symptomless 4) tertiary stage: damage to organs, gummas(tumerlike lesion) TERM 9

Congenital Syphilis

DEFINITION 9 -Contracted by unborn infant during prenatal period - Complications include deformation of bones and teeth, blindness and deafness -blood test, can be cured with antibiotics TERM 10

Trichomoniasis

DEFINITION 10 Hallmark Symptom: foamy yellowish-green discharge - usually show symptoms 4 days-1 month after contracting - 50% of women dont have symptoms

Birth Controls

Cervical Cap: 18% Leas Sheild: 15% Sponge: 17-20% IUD: 1% Pill: 3-7% (.01% of taken at same time everyday)
