1. Write a brief biographical statement introducing yourself to me.
Hello, I’m Nate Nesbit and I am a second semester freshman at IWU. I am a Physics Major, and I’m
looking for a minor right now, the possibilities are Math, Education or Religion. So I am taking this class
as a way to feel out the Education department and see if I enjoy the kinds of things that we do here. I’ve
had extensive time working with children of all ages, whether it is at the summer camp where I am the
archery director or at the weekend retreats where I volunteered. I am excited to see what this class has to
offer and to interacting with the children.
2. Insert a recent photo of yourself here, so that I can begin to connect your face with your name.
3. Why do you want to become a teacher? If you don’t want to be a teacher, what do you hope
to gain from this course?
I think that I might want to be a teacher, I am taking this class so that I can decide more definitively
where I stand. Regardless, one of the most powerful tools that my two favorite teachers had in high
school was real life experience in their fields. That means that my teaching career might take a break
for a few years so that I can spend some time in the work place learning what it means to be an
engineer.
4. What do you want me to know about you …. as a learner? as a person?
This is something I’m working on, and from the looks of it your class is going to help me
with this, but I have a problem of not interacting during class. So this means that I just need
to work harder in and out of class to be on top of all my assignments, as you noticed with the
syllabus. As a person, I’m extremely caring and I do care what my students think about me
and I think that is a positive trait. Also very cup half full kind of person.
5. What do you most want to learn in this course? Be specific!
I want to learn what it means to be a teacher, the ins and outs as much as is possible. I would
like learn “the tricks of the trade” if you will, because even if I decide not to be a teacher I
will still be interacting with children throughout my life. I want to know how to be an

effective teacher and role model for teenagers. Most importantly I want to learn if being a

teacher is for me.

6. What worries you about succeeding in this class?

I am worried about the large amount of out of class work, I am taking 5 classes this semester and

at least four of them are going to be very out of class intensive. I am simply concerned that I will

have too much out of class work.

7. What is the best way I can help you succeed?

Get as much done in class as possible so that the out of class work will be slightly lessened. I

understand that that will still be a lot, but every little bit will help immeasurably.
