HUMN 2201: Civilization to the 14 th^ Century Spring, 2007 Dr. Funk
Each of these entries should be a minimum of a half-page long.
Assignment A
Page 201 of the text discusses one of the essential differences between Christian thought and the thought of other contemporary religions—that God is not born out of chaos that existed before the world. How does this fact make God different than the other gods? Does it enhance or diminish God?
Assignment B
Also on pages 201 to 203, the text discusses how Hebrew and Christian thought incorporates ethics and models of instruction and illumination. How does this aspect of religion differ from that of the Greeks, which is discussed on page 38? Which religion is more valid or (for lack of a better term) “good.” After writing this passage, highlight information you have taken from the text.
Assignment C
Compare Hebrew and Christian thought to either Buddhist thought (pages 175-76) or Cunfucian philosophy (page 180). What similarities do you see. Why might similarities exist between such widely divergent bodies of thought? After writing this passage, highlight information you have taken from the text.
