Benefits of Delivery Drone

  • (^) Since the declaration of a pandemic, local officials have asked residents to keep a

healthy distance and to restrict exposure to the virus. This significantly impacted the

food and package distribution systems since it could be a potential factor of

contamination.

  • The use of commercial drones is encouraging as most of the commercial drones can be

updated with payload drop mechanism and used for package deliveries without risking

both parties.

  • Drones are an environmentally-friendly delivery choice. They run batteries and

eliminate the use of degenerative fuels and the creation of carbon emissions.

  • On the other hand, when your pack leaves the warehouse, it spends most of its time on

the road. The transport used to deliver this package emits fossil fuels that are used for

energy.

CONSTRUCTION OF DRONE

STEP 4 : External GPS

  • Now, Attach the external GPS to the frame and make sure that external GPS is not very near

to the flight controller because it causes interference because of magnetometer in flight

controller.

STEP 5 : Connection to the Flight Controller

  • Now connect the ESCs to the flight controller output port, GPS to the GPS port and Power

module to the PM port of the flight controller.

STEP 6 : Radio Receiver

 Now, connect the channel no. 1-5 to the input of the flight controller. The Channel 1-4 is for

Pitch, Roll, Throttle & Yaw. Channel 5 is for flight modes like Stabilize, Position holds etc.

 The construction of Drone is now complete. All we need is to upload the latest firmware

available for the Quadcopter drone by using software Mission Planner.

 And, after uploading the firmware, we need to calibrate the GPS and each ESC so that it

starts at the same time with the same frequency.

 And then, give it a fly and check if it’s working fine. If its stable or not.

PROGRAMMING OF DRONE

  • (^) To program the flight controller of the drone we need to download the Mission Planner

software into the PC.

  • After installing the mission planner software into the PC, we need to connect it

through the Micro USB cable.

After connecting the Flight

Controller to the PC, select the

desired communication port and

click connect.

Now install the desired firmware

to the flight controller, i.e., Copter

4.1.3. the official and latest

quadcopter firmware.

OUR DRONE

After adjustment and calibration of all the desired

components. The drone is ready to fly.

After flying, the weight distribution of the drone is

very important and necessary because only weight

can give drone a very stable flight.

After troubleshooting the weight distribution, the

drone is good to fly.

Delivery Container

  • I tried to use the QR code method, as suggested by my supervisor, but there

was an issue in that method. I’ve used the analog FPV camera module in the

project, whose picture quality is not good and I used this because digital

FPV system was very costly and out of my budget. So, that camera module

cannot be used for scanning QR code.

  • That’s why I implemented the OTP method. But the QR code method is

efficiently more secure than OTP method.

  • The idea is, the delivery box works with the OTP, and when the receiver

enters the correct OTP, the gate will be automatically unlocked.

  • And for further safety, the drone will record the stream through its FPV

system.

  • (^) STEP 6 : Connect the receiver pin of SIM900 module to the pin no. 3 of the Arduino uno

board.

  • STEP 7 : Connect the Pin no. 4 of Arduino Uno board to the signal input of the relay.
  • STEP 8 : Connect the output of the relay to the electronic lock.
  • STEP 9 : The connection is complete. Now, connect the Arduino Uno board to the computer

and upload the below program.

  • Step 10 : Now, the delivery container is ready to work.
