Lordosis
DEFINITION 1
The term lordosis refers to the normal inward curvature of
the lumbar and cervical regions of the spine. (excessive
lordosis is referred to as swayback)

Kyphosis
DEFINITION 2
Kyphosis refers to the normal convex curvature of the spine
as it occurs in the thoracic and sacral regions. (excessive
kyphosis is referred to as a slouch)
TERM 3
Power Lift
DEFINITION 3
The technique that offers you the best defe nse against injury and
protects the patient with a safe and stable move.
Place your feet a comfortable distance ap art.
Turn your feet slightly outward.
Bend your knees to bring your center of g ravity closer to the object to
be lifted.
Tighten the muscles of your back and abd omen to splint the vulnerable
lower back.
Straddle the object.
Place your hands a comfortable distance f rom each other.
Always use the power grip.
Back should remain locked as you lift.
Reverse the steps to lower the stretcher.

Power Grip
DEFINITION 4
Palm and fingers should be in complete contact with the
object and all fingers should be bent at the same angle.
TERM 5
Squat Lift
DEFINITION 5
Alternative technique you can use if you have one weak leg,
one weak ankle, or if both your knees and legs are strong and
healthy.
Place your weaker leg slightly forward.
Squat down until you can grasp the patient-moving device.
Push yourself up with your stronger leg.

Nonurgent Move

DEFINITION 8 No immediate threat to life exists and the patient can be moved in a normal manner when ready for transport.Examples: Direct Ground Lift Extremity Lift Direct Carry Draw Sheet TERM 9 DEFINITION 9 Wheeled Stretcher TERM 10 DEFINITION 10 Bariatric Stretcher
