YES ● Seizures in preeclampsia or eclampsia. ● Hypomagnesemia and magnesium supplement ● Weak or absent deep tendon reflexes, paralysis, drowsiness, arrhythmias, a large drop in blood pressure, slow or irregular heart rate, hypocalcemia, diarrhea, diaphoresis, hypothermia, respiratory depression ● Magnesium overdose/ Toxicity ● Patient has a normal range of magnesium ● Does not present signs of excess muscle contractions ● Monitor your breathing and check your reflexes ● Educate on the signs of high and low magnesium levels GENERIC: Hydralazine TRADE: Apresoline CLASSIFICATION: Vasodilators Is the dose safe? Patient/ Family Education GENERIC: Labetalol TRADE: NORMODYNE, TRANDATE CLASSIFICATION: ● Therapeutic class: Antihypertensi veves ● Pharmacologic class: Alpha-beta blockers Is the dose safe? YES ● Treats high blood pressure ● Edema, orthostatic hypotension, flushing, ventricular arrhythmias may occur ● Decrease in blood pressure ● It may take several weeks before you get the full benefit of this drug. ● Keep taking this medication even if you feel well. GENERIC: TRADE: CLASSIFICATION: Is the dose safe? Priority Medications/ Treatment: The current clinical management of PE is hydralazine with labetalol and magnesium sulfate to slow disease progression and prevent maternal seizure, and hopefully prolong the pregnancy Magnesium sulfate (a type of mineral) may be given to treat active seizures and prevent future seizures. Antihypertensive medications may be given to lower blood pressure. Review blood pressure and prevent falls Assess the respiratory rate of the newborn
