University of Iowa Summer 2021 Meal Plan Terms and Conditions, Lecture notes of Public Health

MEAL PLAN TERMS AND CONDITIONS
SUMMER 2021
1. Costs
a. You agree to pay the mea l plan rate determined by t he Board of Regents. Your rate is d etermined by the meal pla n you select.
b. The Board of Re gents reserves the r ight to change the approve d contract rates duri ng the term of the contrac t by giving a
30-d ay advance notice.
2. Eligibility
a. Stude nts, faculty, and staf f living off campus may pu rchase a meal plan online .
b. All stude nts living in summer ho using are required to have a mea l plan:
i. 200 Meal Blo ck: $1,513.00
ii. 150 Meal Blo ck: $1,214.00
iii. 100 Meal Block : $894.00
iv. 50 Me al Block: $463.00
c. If you do not sel ect a meal plan online, yo u will be assigned the 100 me al block plan.
3. Dates
a. Meal plans b egin at May 17, 2021 and continue un til August 6, 2021.
b. Meals are ser ved seven (7) days a week a t Hillcrest Hall. Hour s may be found online: htt p://dining.uiowa.edu /.
4. Usage
a. You must presen t your Iowa OneCard (Un iversity of Iowa ID) to the cashi er to use your meal plan.
b. Summer m eal plans do not carry ove r from one semester to the nex t.
c. Herky Bo oster Pack meal balances car ry over from summer to fall to spring and do not ex pire until the end of the spring semes ter.
d. Unused me als are forfeited and non -refundable.
5. HealthandSafety
a. As in any com munity dining estab lishment, dining on c ampus brings many indi viduals such as stude nts, staff, faculty a nd
communi ty members in conta ct with one another. Unive rsity Housing and Di ning will implement re asonable public healt h
and safety m easures regarding infec tious disease as recomm ended by the applicab le public health autho rities. Universit y
Housing and D ining strongly enco urages all individua ls to follow the recommend ed public health guide lines, but it cannot
control the b ehavior of any particu lar individual. As a resu lt, the University of I owa is not and will not be liable fo r any public
health thre at to which a student or vis itor may be exposed, incl uding but not limited to th e transmission of any infec tious
disease such a s COVID-19.
b. Studen ts and dining guests are s trongly encourag ed to practice responsi ble hygiene habits and oth er health-rela ted practices
as recomme nded by the Centers for Di sease Control and other a pplicable public he alth authorities.
c. Universi ty Housing and Dinin g does not assume any liabili ty for adverse reactio ns to food/drink consumed , the presence of a
foreign bod y in food/drink, or items w ith which one may come into c ontact while eating /drinking or p urchasing items at any
UI dining lo cation, convenienc e store, or retail locati on.
6. DietaryNeedsandRestrictions
a. Menus in th e market places satisfy n utritional needs for th e majority of medical d ietary requirem ents and religious/li festyle
practice s. Students with foo d allergies or special di ets should work with a Un iversity Housing an d Dining nutrition spe cialist
or a location m anager regarding the ir specific needs. A Di etary Needs Requ est must be submitte d with documentati on.
b. Universi ty Housing and Dining can not guarantee the accur acy of food safety and nutritio n information. Food items are la beled
with commo n allergen s based on ingre dient information provid ed by manufacturers. Nu trition and ingredien t information may
vary due to pr oduct substituti ons and formulation by th e manufacturer prio r to being purchased by the u niversity.
c. Universi ty Housing and Dinin g will implement reason able health and safety m easures, but is not and wi ll not be liable for any
cross- contact or cross -contamination t hat may occur.

SUMMER 2021

1. Costs

a. You agree to pay the meal plan rate determined by the Board of Regents. Your rate is determined by the meal plan you select. b. The Board of Regents reserves the right to change the approved contract rates during the term of the contract by giving a 30-day advance notice.

2. Eligibility

a. Students, faculty, and staff living off campus may purchase a meal plan online. b. All students living in summer housing are required to have a meal plan: i. 200 Meal Block: $1,513. ii. 150 Meal Block: $1,214. iii. 100 Meal Block: $894. iv. 50 Meal Block: $463. c. If you do not select a meal plan online, you will be assigned the 100 meal block plan.

3. Dates

a. Meal plans begin at May 17, 2021 and continue until August 6, 2021. b. Meals are served seven (7) days a week at Hillcrest Hall. Hours may be found online: http://dining.uiowa.edu/.

4. Usage

a. You must present your Iowa OneCard (University of Iowa ID) to the cashier to use your meal plan. b. Summer meal plans do not carry over from one semester to the next. c. Herky Booster Pack meal balances carry over from summer to fall to spring and do not expire until the end of the spring semester. d. Unused meals are forfeited and non-refundable.

5. Health and Safety

a. As in any community dining establishment, dining on campus brings many individuals such as students, staff, faculty and community members in contact with one another. University Housing and Dining will implement reasonable public health and safety measures regarding infectious disease as recommended by the applicable public health authorities. University Housing and Dining strongly encourages all individuals to follow the recommended public health guidelines, but it cannot control the behavior of any particular individual. As a result, the University of Iowa is not and will not be liable for any public health threat to which a student or visitor may be exposed, including but not limited to the transmission of any infectious disease such as COVID-19. b. Students and dining guests are strongly encouraged to practice responsible hygiene habits and other health-related practices as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and other applicable public health authorities. c. University Housing and Dining does not assume any liability for adverse reactions to food/drink consumed, the presence of a foreign body in food/drink, or items with which one may come into contact while eating/drinking or purchasing items at any UI dining location, convenience store, or retail location.

6. Dietary Needs and Restrictions

a. Menus in the market places satisfy nutritional needs for the majority of medical dietary requirements and religious/lifestyle practices. Students with food allergies or special diets should work with a University Housing and Dining nutrition specialist or a location manager regarding their specific needs. A Dietary Needs Request must be submitted with documentation. b. University Housing and Dining cannot guarantee the accuracy of food safety and nutrition information. Food items are labeled with common allergens based on ingredient information provided by manufacturers. Nutrition and ingredient information may vary due to product substitutions and formulation by the manufacturer prior to being purchased by the university. c. University Housing and Dining will implement reasonable health and safety measures, but is not and will not be liable for any cross-contact or cross-contamination that may occur.

7. Changes

a. Meal plans may not be sold or transferred to another student. b. Changes to the summer meal plan are only permitted until 7 days after you check into the halls.

8. Cancellations

a. If you cancel your residence hall contract, your meal plan will be cancelled. b. Students and/or staff who live off campus may cancel their meal plan after the dates provided in the meal plan change section 7.b. above within five (5) business days from the date of purchase. c. All cancellations will be subject to the meal plan refund schedule regardless of purchase date or actual usage: dining.uiowa.edu/meal-plan-refunds.

9. Refunds

a. Summer meal plans are non-refundable. b. Meals missed because of late move-in, specific diets, religious beliefs and activities, employment, or classes scheduled during the meal hours are not refundable. c. Refund requests based on prolonged illness or unavoidable absences in excess of seven (7) consecutive days may be considered and must be provided in writing with documentation to Contracts and Assignments.

10. Meal Contract Terminations

a. In the event all or a portion of the university housing and dining system and/or supply chain becomes unavailable, as determined by the university, due to an unforeseeable circumstance including, but not limited to, natural disaster; fire; flood; tornado; war; embargo; health epidemic or pandemic; quarantine; riots; civil disobedience/unrest; strikes, lockouts, or other labor disturbances; acts of God; or declaration of emergency, the university may terminate this contract without prior notice. b. The university is not responsible for providing alternate dining to the student once a contract is terminated. c. Credits or refunds for unused meals may be issued at the university’s discretion.
