Who is Merleau- Ponty? Maurice Jane Jacques Meleau-Ponty (1908-1961) A French philosopher and a public intellectual, was a leading academic proponent of existentialism and phenomenology in post-war France. He was a leading phenomelogical existential philosopher. Best known for his original and influential work on embodiment, perception, and ontology, he also made an important contributions on art, history, language, nature, and politics. He has a profound influence in French Philosophy and social theory.

Self-regard that the body and mind are not separate entities but rather those two components is one and the same.
