Chapter1 Introduction to MLC The Millennium Multileaf Collimator (MLC) is an option that can be added to Varian C-Series radiotherapy accelerators (Models 6EX, 600C, 600C/D, 21EX, 2100C, 2100C/D, 23EX, and 2300C/D including the Trilogy, iX, and Silhouette Editions) for shaping fields and is used in conjunction with the primary and secondary collimators. The MLC shapes the X-ray beam to conform to the treatment area, and functions in either the asymmetrical or symmetrical jaw mode. Guidelines for Working:o on the MLC | “When working on the MLC, Varian suggests that you follow these guidelines: a “Keep the machine clean and cover it as ‘much as possible. - Keeping the cover and interface mount on reduces the amount of dust that gets into the carriages and drivetrain. Over time, dust in the leaves and drivetrain may interfere with proper operation. m __ As with all electrical equipment, be careful not to spill liquids around the machine. Spilled ligqnids can kina the: Sjuipnieat and may present a fire hazard. m Whenever working on the MLC, use an electrostatic-sensitive device (ESD) wrist strap. Most of the electronics are static-sensitive and are labelled as indicated on the sticker in Figure 1-1. Figure 1-1 Electrostatic Sensitive Device Caution Sticker C Scanned with OKEN Scanner
