On 14th^ September 2023, the Orientation on Moot was conducted by the Moot Court Society for freshers and final year students of JSS Law College about the “Art of Mooting” by highlighting the importance of moot court practices and procedures with special reference to its impact on the curriculum. The session started with welcoming the Guests and the speaker of the program, Ms. Smriti. K and Ms. Shama. D who is an alumnus of this college. Ms. Nikitha who is one of the moot coordinators was the host of the session. Ms. Shivani. P. Murthy who is the student moot coordinator welcomed everyone and Dr. N. Vanishree who is the Acting Principal of the college was present. All the First years and Final years were present. The sessions were mainly about ‘The Art of Mooting’. As moot is a new concept for the first years and it is a compulsory paper for the final years. The session ended with vote of thanks and Mrs. Asmathunnisa G, the faculty coordinator of JSSLC, Mysuru handed over a small present to both of the speakers. The program was very helpful for everyone present in the session. Feedback factor: Valli S P (IX sem BBA.LL. B)- The session included how to prepare for the issues, how to solve the moot problem, how to draft the memorial and its contents, how to address the bench etc. gave a complete idea about the mooting which was very helpful. It further dealt with
detailed information about moot which was easy to understand. The PowerPoint presentation about the same was shared for our reference. A sample memorial of both sides was also shared which assisted in preparing the best memorial. DEMO MOOT SESSIONS:
On 5th^ October 2023, the Lecture on the Art of Drafting in Civil and Criminal cases was conducted by the Moot Court Society, where the special lecture focused on various civil and criminal applications concerning the use of Artificial intelligence. There was an introduction to the relevant provisions of The Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 under which various applications are drafted in the criminal courts in India. The provisions are according to the framing of applications under the Civil Procedure Code, 1908 and the requisites to be taken care of in meeting clients, analyzing cases, and preparing preliminary drafts, and the drafts must be precise. Further, the limitations of using AI in the legal field were discussed. Feedback factor: Ritika M (IX sem BA.LL. B)- Two sessions on drafting in civil and criminal cases were held, and they were very beneficial in providing us with knowledge about the process, necessary conditions, comprehension and analysis of the relevant facts, dos and don'ts when drafting, and applications of artificial intelligence.
On the 16th^ of October, 2023 the Induction Ceremony of Moot Court Society 2023-24 was held, and the Intra Collegiate Moot Proposition was released followed by the badging ceremony for the members of the Moot Court Society. The ceremony was hosted by the MCS convenor Ms. Shivani. The event began with an invocation rendered by Mr. Tejas after which the lighting of the lamp ensued. The faculty co-ordinator Prof. Asmathunnisa then welcomed the guests and audience and walked the attendees through the various achievements of the MCS during the academic year 2022-23. Ma'am then spoke about the career milestones of Justice Ashok G. Nijagannavar which greatly inspired the student audience. This was followed by an address by Justice Ashok. He told the audience about how he ventured into the legal realm by a mere coincidence in sharp contrast to how the legal profession today is a conscious choice of career that is highly sought after. He reminded the students that money was secondary to professional fulfillment and ethics in a profession like ours and that we as advocates have an onerous duty to serve our nation. Prof. Nataraju, our principal, gave the next address. He highlighted the importance of housing huge ambitions which serve to act as the driving force behind successful
careers. He quoted Roscoe Pound to remind us that lawyers are ultimately social engineers who owe a huge duty to society. After the speeches of the guests, the badging ceremony commenced. The Induction Ceremony finally concluded with the release of the inter-class moot proposition for the academic year. JSS INTRA-COLLEGIATE MOOT COURT COMPETITON 2023- 24
This year’s moot proposition was based on constitutional law and was conceived to create awareness about the emerging developments and their application in actual practice. We received an overwhelming response from the students. A total of forty-six teams participated in the competition. The Preliminary Round of the competition was conducted in two sessions on 27th November, wherein forty-six teams contested for qualifying for the Octa-Final rounds. All participants showcased their arguments in person before their respective judges in various courtrooms. Based on the scores awarded by the esteemed panel of judges to the teams, the top sixteen teams made it to the Octa-Final rounds. On 28th November, sixteen teams competed and eight highest-scoring teams of their respective rounds reached the Quarter-Final rounds. Out of eight teams in the Quarter-Final rounds, four teams qualified to the Semi-Final rounds of the Competition. Day 3 of the Competition was of Semi-Final and Final rounds. The Semi- Final rounds commenced between the top four teams. After intense rounds of the Semi-Final, two teams qualified for the final round of the competition. The two teams were competing to secure the coveted title of the ‘Winner’ of the JSSLC Intra College Moot Court Competition,
2023 - 24. The final round on 29th November was adjudged by our esteemed panel consisting of K. Bhagya III Addl District and Sessions Judge, Mallanagouda IV Addl District and Sessions Judge, P. J. Somashekara VI Addl District and Sessions Judge, H. E. Chinnappa, Retd. Principal Public Prosecutor, Girish C. B, Public Prosecutor. In the final round of the competition, the students' mooting skills were at their best, and all the attendees of the courtroom were highly impressed with both teams. In the Valedictory Session, the Hon’ble judges for the final round addressed the students with their monumental knowledge and experiences, which proved to be a great takeaway for all the attendees, and soon after the presidential address, the results were declared Feedback Factor: Madhumitha V (IX sem BA.LL. B)- There were intense arguments, great courtroom etiquette, and exemplary presentation skills, which proved to be a great learning experience for the students. The esteemed judges posed intense questions to the speakers, still, the teams showed great confidence and team spirit. JSS INTRA-COLLEGIATE JUDGEMENT WRITING COMPETITION: On 5th^ December 2023, the Moot Court Society organized the Judgment Writing (virtual) competition for the registered participants of the Intra-Collegiate Moot Court Competition 2023 - 2024. There were ten teams who participated in this Competition. The problem for this competition was the same moot problem that was issued for The Intra Collegiate Moot Court Competition 2023. The rules for the competitionwere also given to the participants. In the format as prescribed in the rules. The participants were provided with a sample judgment for the purpose of reference. As this was a team event, the teams that took part in the moot court competition were asked mandatorily to participate in this competition.
On 10th^ February 2024 A State Level Elocution Competition on the theme "Viksit Bharat" was organized with great enthusiasm by the Moot Court Society (MCS) of JSS Law College, (Autonomous) Mysore.
