What is motegrity (prucalopride)?
Prucalopride is for adults (over the age of 18) with chronic idiopathic
constipation (CIC). Idiopathic means the cause of the constipation is unknown.
Symptoms of CIC include hard and infrequent stools and incomplete bowel
movements. Prucalopride stimulates receptors in your gastrointestinal (GI) tract
tissues. When these receptors are stimulated, your colon responds by moving
your bowels.
How do I take prucalopride?
Follow your doctor’s instructions for taking prucalopride. You may be
prescribed either the 1mg or the 2mg pill.
1 mg
Each white to off-white, round, biconvex tablet marked "PRU 1" on one side
contains Prucalopride 1 mg.
2 mg
Each pink, round, biconvex tablet marked "PRU 2" on one side contains
Prucalopride 2 mg.
You may take with food or on an empty stomach.
Try to take it at the same time each day.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

What is motegrity (prucalopride)?

Prucalopride is for adults (over the age of 18) with chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC). Idiopathic means the cause of the constipation is unknown. Symptoms of CIC include hard and infrequent stools and incomplete bowel movements. Prucalopride stimulates receptors in your gastrointestinal (GI) tract tissues. When these receptors are stimulated, your colon responds by moving your bowels.

How do I take prucalopride?

Follow your doctor’s instructions for taking prucalopride. You may be prescribed either the 1mg or the 2mg pill.

1 mg Each white to off-white, round, biconvex tablet marked "PRU 1" on one side contains Prucalopride 1 mg.

2 mg Each pink, round, biconvex tablet marked "PRU 2" on one side contains Prucalopride 2 mg.

  • You may take with food or on an empty stomach.
  • Try to take it at the same time each day.
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How do I store prucalopride?

  • Keep prucalopride in its original blister packaging to protect it from moisture.
  • Store it at room temperature, and keep it out of the reach of children.
  • Do not dispose of medications in wastewater (e.g. down the sink or in the toilet) or in household garbage. The safest way to dispose of old medications is to take them to an authorized “Take-Back” program in your area. What are the possible side effects?

Prucalopride may cause serious side effects including:

  • Unusual changes in mood or behavior
  • Thoughts of hurting yourself, trying to hurt yourself, or suicide. Stop taking prucalopride right away and tell your healthcare provider immediately if your depression gets worse, you feel sad, hopeless or begin to have thoughts of suicide, thoughts of hurting yourself or have tried to hurt yourself.

The most common side effects of Prucalopride include:

  • headache
  • nausea
  • dizziness
  • gas
  • stomach area (abdominal) pain
    • diarrhea
    • vomiting
    • fatigue
    • bloating

*These are not all of the possible side effects of Prucalopride.
