The gain of New Mexico was another piece of land for the US, therefore bringing the US one step closer to achieving Manifest Destiny. The textbook talks about how General Kearny invaded New Mexico. General Kearny was a supporter of Manifest Destiny, and conquered New Mexico so that he would help the US. New Mexico played a large role in the US's attaining Manifest Destiny.
