Secondary Sources Commentaries, summaries, reviews, or interpretations of primary sources; often written by those not involved in the original work Meta-Analysis A scholarly paper that combines results of studies, both published and unpublished, into a measurable format and statistically estimates the effects of proposed interventions Theory A set of concepts linked through propositions to explain a phenomenon Concepts Words or phrases that convey a unique idea that is relevant to a theory Conceptual Definitions Definitions of concepts contained in a theory that sound like dictionary definitions; i.e. "love," "pain," anything that can't be quantified or measured

Operational Definitions Definitions that explicitly state how the variable will be measured or operationalized; empirical definitions Causality The relationship between a cause and its effect Probability Likelihood or chance that an event will occur in a situation; how likely it is that the change in the DV was caused by the IV Control Ability to manipulate, regulate, or statistically adjust for factors that can affect the dependent variable Manipulation The ability of researchers to control the independent variable Extraneous Variable
