Number of Stars in the Sky Lab Name:
This activity requires a dark spot and a cardboard bathroom tissue core ( cores
from paper towel rolls will not work). On a clear evening go outside and allow
about 8 to 10 minutes for your eyes to adapt to the dark. Then, while holding
the core to your eye, count the number of stars visible through the core.
Repeat this 5 times while pointing the core at different parts of the sky.

2. Calculate the average star count form your data. Box the final answer.
3. A bathroom tissue core limits your view to about 1/60 of the night sky.
Calculate the number of stars that can be seen in the sky by assuming that
your average count is 1/60 part of the entire visible sky. Box your answer.
