FOOD INC. QUESTIONS (THIS IS ON NETFLIX). By Robert Kenner 2008. You
might
be able to find this on the GHC library site or several streaming apps, Google
Play, etc.
Don’t forget to highlight your answers!
1. What are your initial thoughts on this documentary?
After Watching the documentary Food Inc, I was honestly disgusted and
hope that since this documentary is almost 16 years old that at least some
things have changed since that documentary or because of that
documentary otherwise the world really does need help but there were a
few points that stood out most to me. I think one of the most important
concerns that were brought up is the consumers not knowing the truth
behind the food, whether there is actual harm in our food or not, we still
need to know what is going into our food as it our bodies we are taking care
of since as they say we are what we eat. The harm that may actually be
inside our food can be caused by how easy it is to produce crap food now
days. Making mass produced food is a lot easier than it has been in the past
because genetics have changed animals into growing faster and fatter. This
causes harm to the environment by creating factories for these foods to be
made, which causes pollution by emitting many CO2 gasses. However this
isn’t a concern for the producer. The producer is mainly focused on money
they receive even if it causes harm to the environment or the consumers
which is crazy to think considering they are one of the consumers as well
that are consuming these products too so that raises the question on what
do they do, like do they consume this stuff knowing all this or? The use of
pesticides and other substances are used in foods, whether it’s in the
production of corn growing or in the food in general to help keep germs out.
This also causes harm to the consumer and environment that we should be
aware of considering we are already in the mist of global warming crisis
whether you believe in that or not.

  1. Do you think there are adverse health effects from eating GMO foods? It honestly depends because GMO foods have their pro and cons as with anything such as pros being More access to healthy food meaning it produces higher yields, year-round food which in result, they can reduce the cost of food and make it more accessible, especially during the winter months when crop are not available. Consequently, more people especially those living in poverty or with lower access to quality food may be able to eat healthier food year-round. Another pro would be a reduction in potentially harmful chemical usage meaning that breeding insect and weed-resistant organisms may reduce Trusted Source farmers’ reliance on potentially harmful chemicals as pesticides, as well as plenty other pros now with pros comes the cons being that Environmental harm due to Damage to the environment can affect human health by expediting climate change, leading to food shortage or harming native plant and animal populations. Genetically modifying an organism could change the way other organisms in the wild behave. And another major con that comes out of it Toxins in plants due to many plants containing trace amounts of toxins that are harmful in higher doses. GMO plants might have a different balance of toxins, which increases the risk of harm to humans such as an increased risk of cancer and infertility, although research on this I very little so in the end depending on the person’s opinion the cons of GMOS do outweigh the pros of it.
  2. How can you avoid GMO foods? The best way to avoid GMO foods would be to buy all 100 percent organic foods but other ways could be in that Look for the USDA Organic Seal in
